WTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTF. THIS IS NOT SOCCER, IT'S FOOOOOOOOOTBALLLLLLLL. This game is called soccer !!!!ONLY!!!! in USA, in rest of world it's FOOTBALL. My question is: Wikipedia is American or international encyclopaedia?

I agree with this screamer. Either call it football of call it association football, but soccer is really nonsense. Nobody calls it that. Migdejong 18:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I'll have to partly disagree... First, I don't think screamers are always the best people to take advice from (although sometimes they can show great insight :), second, you can't make sweeping statements like "[in the USA] nobody plays soccer and there is no football culture", it's played by many people there, and the national team was in the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals.
Thirdly, I agree "soccer" is not an ideal name for the category, but "association football" is no better - Responsible? 23:42, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
It's been over a week and I guess we can say there's 'no consensus' on this page — but the fact that no-one has made any further moves to change the "soccer" categories to "association football" suggests that maybe "soccer" (which has worked as the name so far) is the best name for now. If you want to really improve this section, you should help organise the uncategorised articles in it. Hope this is OK;; Responsible? 18:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Nobody calls it association football either and unless you want a ridiculously long name like Football (soccer) in order to differentiate it from the American Football categories, it's probably gonna stay as soccer. By the way, I'm saying this even though I'm a proponent of football. Yonatan talk 23:28, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
The thing is. We actually play this game, and we call it football. Everybody does, except for the Americans. The assumption that America is a football nation because of the 2002 World Cup is ridiculous. The fact that you would even need a link for that. We live for football out here,. we eat scream and breath football. Where I live, The Netherlands, Football is the number one sport ánd the number two sport, just like in the UK, Germany, and god knows where else (verywhere basically except for The US, Canada, Australia and some Asian nations. To change category names to American standards is ridiculous in these circumstances. This discussion was held on the English wikipedia as well, and they decided for football as well. Why? Because only the Americans call it soccer. If you would say soccer to anybody from elsewhere 80% wouldn't understand what you where talking about. They call it football. 145.116.1.78 14:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm changing it to the title which is used on Wikipedia. - Soprani 22:43, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
