Charles Algernon Parsons

English: Sir Charles Algernon Parsons, O.M., K.C.B. (13 June 1854 – 11 February 1931) was a British engineer, best known for his invention of the steam turbine.

  Parson's first Compound Steam Turbine - 1887

  Parson's first 1 megawatt "turbogenerator" alternator driven by a steam turbine. It was installed at a plant in Elberfeld, Germany.

  Parson demonstrated the first turbine powered ship, the Turbinia at the 1897 Navy Review for Queen Victoria. At 34.5 knots, it raced up and down the line of ships easily evading a Navy picket boat that tried to stop it.
