I think here is necessary not only more admins who talks Spanish (there are only 2 Spanish-speakers today), but also people with a high sense of multilingualism, as Common is. In fact, my mother tongue is Catalan, a European language wich is minorized nowadays. Briefly, I'm contributing here helping to users from Catalan wikipedia when they upload something here and doesn't notice correctly the source and the license of the media file. My personal contribs in Commons, according to Kate's editcounter, are more than 1200 files uploaded, and more than 3500 editings (2500 of them on description section on pages of images), since December 2004. I'm experienced about wiki code, wikimedia world, as I started to be admin on Catalan Wikipedia in January 2005. Joanot Martorell 10:46, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose. Commons does need more admins, particularly ones who can speak languages that are under-represented in the current admin pool. However, an admin does need to understand and work within commons policies. From what I can tell from your talk page (although I cannot speak Spanish or Catalan so I may not have got the whole picture), your actions with regard to languages on Commons have been rather controversial. I also note a request for mediation less than a month ago regarding a dispute related to languages. At this time this does not make me feel like you would make a good admin here. Sure! This request was made by me because of a user who was deleting every text in Catalan on description pages because of political backgrounds. I wouldn't made this mediation request if I didn't know the policies on Commons. My request was made on Village Pump, as everyone can check [1].--Joanot Martorell 17:12, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure he is not a vandal (as someone says in his discussion page). Also I belive will be useful it there is here an administrator from catalan wikipedia because thus we can solve here our problems easily and quickly. he is an active user in commons and in w:ca and a good admin.

  • Symbol neutral vote.svg Neutral--Javier Carro 09:13, 7 January 2006 (UTC) I'd like to say some things about this candidate. Martorell is a very constant user, active in many Wikimedia projects, he tends to respect other views in discussions, multilinguist and linguistics lover and a significant user in Catalan Wikipedia. All these reasons make me to think he should be a very good candidate for administrator here. However I vote neutral because in several discussions I had the impression that his ideology has been quite influential. I would like to encourage him to make an effort on neutrality if he administrates commons, doesn't matter his ideology, but just to leave it home when he uses the administration powers, then he would have my total support. --Javier Carro 09:13, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
