I've successfully closed uploads on one Icelandic projects and have filed a Bugzilla[1] for two others. Because of all this traffic from Icelandic projects being directed to Commons, we badly need to translate the interface into Icelandic. isownwork is the only one I've done so far, but with sysop access I will be able to translate more. Meta has a matrix of projects I'm working at, and lists three sysop statues. Steinninn 01:43, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Symbol oppose vote.svg Á móti Symbol support vote.svg Samþykkt I have worked a few times first hand with Steinninn, and had some conflicts with him, so I recommend that you all please don't try telling him what to do or tell him his way isn't right, or he might block you, revert it, or just cause a huge ruckus. Steinninn has some good sides and some bad sides. And I admit, I have some bad sides myself as a user, probably most people do, but this is about him, not me or anyone else.

First his good sides, Steinninn's dedication and motivation to wiki is remarkeably impressive. He spends much time fine tuning articles, such as movies which is his main expertise, and his image work is amazing. Although most of our conflicts occured during his closing of the uploading of images on the Icelandic wiki, and it bursted out into probably one of the largest conflicts in Icelandic wiki history on Wikibooks (which later satisfied everyone by only having sysops upload photos), he still reguardless was assuming good faith. So there is no question that he will do amazing as a sysop on Commons since he is obviously well experienced on commons more than writing books, haha. (laugh, that was funny).

Now, the negative sides of Steinninn. He and I both bear the same problem, we are both wikiholics. That said, what comes with the package is sometimes taking our contributions and projects too seriously. Maybe this is a good trait as a sysop to have, maybe sometimes it isn't as it led to many conflicts between us both, once having both of our sysop rights stripped down from us (hence Icelandic Wikibooks). It also leads to disrespect to fellow wikipedians also assuming good faith, disrespect to higher up users and bearucrats, and even disrespect to oneself as both he and I have expereinced during our conflicts. He is a friendly person, but like me, that friendliness can turn into hostile emotions when fiddling with a project or issue that both parties disagree on. I'd also like to add the details of the last conflict we both experienced, and I think we both agreed unspokenly that we both don't wish that to occur again, and we are both trying to smooth out our wiki-relationship now. But, what occured was a revert of a delete tag on some photos on the Icelandic Wikibooks, which I reverted after he added. Thus, he blocked me, after receiving sysop status no more than 24 hours before hand. This started that whole large conflict, which led to another revert war. This time, he changed the front page which I then reverted back to the original. This went on 4 more times, which led me to block him (according to the English 3 revert rule - which was my mistake because this rule does not exist on IS). We both failed to use communication on chat pages in this process, leaving us both at fault. Though now I think we both learnt our lessons and are using chat pages regarding events or changes.

Also, to add to this, I noticed he wishes to become a sysop here because of his Icelandic. Icelandic is a tough language, and even native speakers can make mistakes, which is why Icelandic wiki is great, because other speakers can see mistakes that the writers cannot. Thus I think there should be another Icelandic speaking sysop before he begins the translations, at least 1 more (if there isn't already). This isn't pointing to Steinninn or targeting him, but instead an idea to better Commons, although I have noticed sometimes some spelling errors in his writing. (But who's to say, I make many grammatical errors too, so this part is irrelevant to my voting decision).

Thus, concludes my statement on Steinninn, sort of like my rival if you might say of Wiki. Regardless, we've been through a lot, he has asked me for help on wiki and likewise I have too, he is a great asset and great person personally from the few conversations I have had with him on MSN (before he blocked me for some reason). So I think Steinninn would make a great addition to the sysops of Commons. Good luck Steinninn!

Oh, and the reason why I have my vote as Oppose or Á móti, is because he asked me too. :) (look here). --Girdi 19:51, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for a long and good explanation. But I would think you voted unfairly. You said "So there is no question that he will do amazing as a sysop on Commons", so I think that should make it {{samþykkt}}. You must have missunderstood my message to you. I never asked you to vote against me. I said: "I was hoping to get some votes against me. You probably haven't noticed the vote that is going on". And even if you could somehow read that I was asking you to do it, you shouldn't vote according to what someone els asks you to. But thanks again for taking the time to look into this vote. --Steinninn 20:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah sorry about that. So my vote is changed, appropriately. Gangi þér vel og til hamingju Steinninn! --Girdi 20:51, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
