[edit] <My full name> to TM
It was a bad decision to use my full name as username because it appears on hundreds of “This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons” pages, even in foreign Wikipedia projects I never participated. I'm already using “TM” as my public signature. PS: I like my edits and I would like to track my edits. That's why I do not want to create a second account. But I do not like my name spread all over the place. --TM 12:54, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done. Your talk page history was also moved.--Jusjih 14:01, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RomanNose to rosp
Please change my id "RomanNose" to "rosp" --RomanNose 19:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fredstober → Fred Stober
- Current name: User:FredStober
- Requested name: User:Fred Stober
- Reason: Harmonizing username throughout all Wikimedia (Preparations for unified login--FredStober 19:15, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Done User:FredStober was renamed to User:Fred Stober. --EugeneZelenko 14:33, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] User:Eärendil to User:Gil-Estel
Hi! I recently created my account under the name "Eärendil". However, I discovered a few moments later that a very similar username is already used on the French-speaking Wikipedia (see fr:Utilisateur:Earendel). I registered there under the name fr:User:Gil-Estel, and I'd like to change my username here accordingly. I have only a few edits here, but I uploaded a picture, so it seems cleaner to me this way. Eärendil 16:15, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Done User:Eärendil was renamed to User:Gil-Estel. --EugeneZelenko 14:07, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Done User:Steptrip was renamed to User:Magnus animum. --EugeneZelenko 14:12, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] User:Usrl to User:Lucid
L is my username on enwp, and I'm tired of people saying that I "only picked it for vanity", so I've decided to change it to another name I like. I would just create a new account here, if it weren't for having already uploaded an image that I would like to prevent confusion over. --Usrl 02:08, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Done User:Usrl was renamed to User:Lucid. --EugeneZelenko 14:14, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Edmundkh to EdmundEzekielMahmudIsa
Dear sir, "kh" comes from my Chinese, or actually Hokkien, surname. But actually I don't like to be a Chinese! So, please change my username into such a name which is half-Jewish half-Arab. Thank you!
P/S: Please leave me a message in either English or Malay (Bahasa Melayu) Wikipedia. --Edmund the King of the Woods! 10:13, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Done User:Edmundkh was renamed to User:EdmundEzekielMahmudIsa. --EugeneZelenko 14:10, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

- Not exactly. I may be paranoid here, but I want to prevent impersonations, so please accept my apologies. What I mean is post on your fr:wikipedia user or talk page (while logged in) that your current ID on commons is Wc-ReDwolf and then give a link to that post. That way we know it's you. ++Lar: t/c 14:55, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:riana_dzasta to User:Riana
- The Riana account was stupidly created by me to redirect to my userpage. If it's possible, I'd like to simply usurp that account (i.e. I would contribute to Commons under the name Riana instead of my current riana_dzasta). NB I am an administrator. Thanks :) ~ Riana ⁂ 11:52, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

(make an edit to that account (to user or talk page), as you, saying that your ID here is Helios89 and you are requesting a change, then give the diff of that post here.) I am User:S1 in the German Wikipedia (you find the confirmation here) and I would like to have the same username here. [edit] Auroranorth to AuroraCommons (withdrawn)
Hi! To keep in line with the other Wikimedia projects I'm involved in, I'd like to use AuroraCommons as my username. Thank you. Auroranorth 13:15, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- That kinda goes counter to the idea of Single User Login... are you sure that's a good idea? ++Lar: t/c 13:20, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand 'Single User Login'. Auroranorth 13:31, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Coming soon, it will be possible (and in fact desirable) to log in using one password, one ID, across all the wikis where you have accounts. but your username needs to be the same (and the email it is associated with needs to be the same) across all wikis. You're moving away from that idea I think by setting up different accounts on different wikis, which may make things inconvenient for you in future. Most other people are moving in the other direction, changing to the same name on all wikis, even usurping unused names in some cases, where it makes sense to do so. I can't find the most relevant explanation, but see meta:H:UL for a starting point. This is coming and it will be cool... but from the questions: "Q: Can I merge different usernames? - A:No, but this might be possible in future versions.' See also testwiki merge account test feature ... hence my question, are you SURE you want to do this? I could be confused as to what you want to do, but if you wanted to change BACK later, I'd be somewhat concerned. ++Lar: t/c 14:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have left a reminder at the user's en:wp talk page but if there is no further response after a short while, I'd recommend declining the request and archiving it as it does move in what I consider the wrong direction. Other thoughts? ++Lar: t/c 15:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- See w:User_talk:Lar#Rename_request where the user has responded. I am not sure what is meant by "SUL means nothing much to me"... I don't know if the user still, after the references I gave, does not get what SUL is (in which case more explaining is needed) or if they get what it is and don't care (in which case I would be inclined not to grant the request as I think it makes more work for others later. Perhaps I am confused??? Comments from others?) ++Lar: t/c 14:09, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

- Meisterkoch (talk • contribs • count • logs • page moves • block log • email) already exists, so this is a usurpation request. It also has recent edits, see the logs or contributions. Is that you too? We don't normally usurp users with recent edits unless both users are already controlled by the same person. I'd want to see crosslinkage between both userids here, with each ID having some sort of statement that the user is also in control of the other ID. Let me know if that's not clear. (If it is not you, you'll have to wait till SUL or get the other user to agree to a move as well) ++Lar: t/c 12:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WJBscribe to Will (withdrawn)
Looks like my name isn't taken - I'd love to have it :-). WjBscribe 05:58, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Remember m:SUL is coming... en:wp (among other places) has a w:User:Will already and once SUL happens, your name here would need to change back. I find this tool quite helpful, it shows that for Will, there are a lot of users out there on various wikis. I'd be inclined to decline this request (unless you actually are that user Will on en and can prove it by crosslinking.. (see User:Lar/Crosslink, the standard boilerplate I use to ask for crosslinks) ) Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 10:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why such a link would be necessary - the details of SUL are still to be worked out. Its unclear if my account here was User:Will what effect what outcome there would be to the conflict between user names that generates. I would however like this username on Commons - if I return to being User:WJBscribe once SUL comes in, never mind. If I get to be User:Will on en.wiki - so much the better. Also there is no reason why under SUL one cannot have accounts on different Wikis by different names - they simply cannot be unified. WjBscribe 10:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- SUL is coming. It is, I believe, much closer than you think, and the details are quite firm as I understand it. I don't think that increasing the number of accounts that can't be unified is a good idea, as it increases work that has to be done later (every exception requires manual review and may lead to rechanges later). I may be misinterpreting or inventing policy on this, but I am inclined to deny requests to move to non unified IDs (see the archive, the last two entries are requests withdrawn after the user fully understood SUL), and to require crosslinking on requests where the ID exists elsewhere and the user asserts such. Now in this particular case, the en:wp Will account appears to be quite old and inactive, but it does have significant contributions. Other Will accounts are fresher and more active. One of them can well make a case to usurp your Will during the advent of SUL, so why make more work? Other crats may well feel differently, I am, after all, the newest one and we have many others. I welcome input from others. ++Lar: t/c 10:49, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well I would certainly appreciate a second opinion from another crat. It seems an odd result to me that because someone registered w:User:Will and made a couple of hundred edits back in 2004 I can now not have that username on a completely different Wiki. Nothing in the recent threads on Wikitech-l suggests that Brion intends to force people to unify their names across projects. I believe I am familiar with what is being proposed for SUL and I would still like this rename. I would point out that there is nothing to stop someone creating the account and making significant contributions with it - I feel it a reasonable request for me as an established contributor to the Commons to be renamed to that username. As to recent edits by other accounts, I am User:Will on en.wikisource.org [1]. WjBscribe 10:56, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- As far as I understood SUL policy, user with more contributions will get name. From other side I don't follow SUL news closely (it became soap opera :-(), so my knowledge there is limited. --EugeneZelenko 15:13, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to everyone for their input. I've decided to withdraw the request after several people have pointed out that while WJBscribe is a unique name associated with me, Will is generic. I hope this hasn't been a waste of everyone's time - I agree with Lar that we need to work out a nuanced policy for how to handle requests that raise these issues and hopefully our having thrashed out some of the arguments is a good thing in developing that. WjBscribe 23:32, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Absolutely. See the header of this page, there is a start at a policy there already (which I drafted before this need for nuance became apparent...) perhaps you could help refine it? Let's discuss on the talk page if anyone is so inclined. ++Lar: t/c 16:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Not done request has been withdrawn ++Lar: t/c 16:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bufu to Schmelzle
In preparation for SUL i want to have my commons-username changed to the username Schmelzle i am active with in german wikipedia (thats where i work most), see here. I hope thats possible. Regards--Bufu 22:14, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- could you double check that see here... it seems to lead to red pages. Or better yet.... Could you crosslink from another account where you have this id (from that account, on that wiki, post saying this is you here, perhaps on your user page) and post a diff to it? Thanks. Or give a ref to your WikiMatrix if you have one. (see m:User:Lar/WikiMatrix for an example). Thanks ++Lar: t/c 01:45, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Done The user "User:Bufu" has been renamed to "User:Schmelzle". ++Lar: t/c 16:24, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Ostikhin" to "Flrn"
I've changed my username in Russian Wikipedia, English Wikipedia and I'm planning to change this nickname in all projects of Wikimedia. Ostikhin 12:57, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Could you crosslink from another account where you have this id (from that account, on that wiki, post saying this is you here, perhaps on your user page) and post a diff to it? Thanks. Or give a ref to your WikiMatrix if you have one. (see m:User:Lar/WikiMatrix for an example). Thanks (note, I will not do requests without a crosslink if there is a claim that it is to unify userids.. other 'crats might but I will not.) ++Lar: t/c 14:12, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Done The user "User:Ostikhin" has been renamed to "User:Flrn".
- The page User:Ostikhin has been moved to User:Flrn.
- The page User talk:Ostikhin has been moved to User talk:Flrn.

[edit] Alaisd to Aliasd (usurp) (and vice versa if possible)
I hope to usurp an account I own for single login. My main account is Alaisd (talk • contribs) where I use Aliasd (talk • contribs) on most wikis. I mostly keep both my accounts as dopplegangers, as I have here, but would like to move my contribs over to the standard account. Alaisd 13:51, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Confirmed ownership of second account. Aliasd 13:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- I've given this a subheading partly for archival purposes.. and partly to confirm, what you are asking to do is to usurp an account you control already? (if not, please change the header to reflect what it is you want...) Would you like the end result to be that both accounts still exist but basically swapped around, if at all possible? (I think maybe with enough moves we can get that to happen for you...) I don't see any problem with this, the history shows clearly you control both accounts... just out of curiousity, can you give a pointer to another wiki where you have an account? It doesn't, in this case, really matter I don't think. ++Lar: t/c 15:13, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- PS I should note, there is no way to merge the current contributions of both accounts to just one. All that can be done is renaming, not merging. If I've correctly understood what you want, please let us know and it will be done shortly. ++Lar: t/c 15:17, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Also, would appreciate a swap around, but it is not necessary. I am mostly interested in moving my contribs to User:Aliasd, although I do try and reserve alaisd as a doppleganger to prevent impersonation. Alaisd 00:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

- The user "User:Aliasd" has been renamed to "User:Aliasd (temporary)".
- The page User:Aliasd/Template:Wikilink has been moved to User:Aliasd (temporary)/Template:Wikilink.
- The user "User:Alaisd" has been renamed to "User:Aliasd".
- The page User:Alaisd has been moved to User:Aliasd.
- The page User:Alaisd/Template:header has been moved to User:Aliasd/Template:header.
- The page User talk:Alaisd has been moved to User talk:Aliasd.
- The user "User:Aliasd (temporary)" has been renamed to "User:Alaisd".
- The page User:Aliasd (temporary)/Template:Wikilink has been moved to User:Alaisd/Template:Wikilink.
This should have effected a full swap. I hope. You may have to go fix up some redirects and the like. Please advise of any problems. (I am going to hold off archiving this one for a bit, till you say it's sorted, as it was a bit tricky) ++Lar: t/c 16:07, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- WOW! That was a lot of effort! Everything works perfectly, I have fixed the redirects (the page works at least), and thankyou so much for helping out! I bet you don't have to do too many of these :) Aliasd 20:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
