[edit] June 30

[edit] File:Przejazd_wojsk_III_Rzeszy_przez_Katowice.jpg

Uploader claims the image is in the public domain because the author has been dead for more than 70 years. However, no author or source information is given and the photo isn't even 70 years old. Thorsten1 (talk) 15:41, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

"It seems the photographer is unknown" - I tend to disagree. The fact that the uploader hasn't stated the author doesn't mean the author "seems to be unknown". The photo looks like it was scanned from a printed source, so at least the origin of the scan has to be stated. --Thorsten1 (talk) 10:45, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
It is a photo published in a newspaper or a magazine (magazines were often printed in the same poor quality) of the period (1939). No way to prove or dismiss the anonymity without access to the original. Sv1xv (talk) 19:12, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Not quite. Unless the uploader lets us know, we can't know whether the photo was published in 1939 or later. I would rather assume it's from a later source, but that's just a guess. At any rate, does this mean that if I upload a scan without posting any information about the author or time/place of publication, can it stay? --Thorsten1 (talk) 17:27, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Do as you like. I can't fight against deletionists and irresponsible uploaders at the same time. However it would be more constructive if someone could locate a source instead of scoring deletion points. Sv1xv (talk) 17:50, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm not doing anything except posting this for discussion. I'm not a deletionist or copyright-paranoid, and not trying to score deletion points - this is the only file I ever nominated for deletion. "it would be more constructive if someone could locate a source". Certainly, but how is someone supposed to do that without so much as the tiniest clue? The only person who can locate the source is the original uploader. Having said all that, the picture is low-quality, not very informative, unsourced, without license information. Last I heard, such things were candidates for speedy-deletion. --Thorsten1 (talk) 17:15, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Symbol delete vote.svg Delete, as Sv1xv said: source needed, otherwise delete. At the moment the image is without any sourcing. --Martin H. (talk) 16:39, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
