- Given to Wilfredor
This kit includes everything you need to shoot with the D300:
- Nikon D300 body
- Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens (kit lens)
- 16 GB SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash memory card (30 MB/s)
- B+W 52mm MRC UV filter for protecting the lens
- B+W 52mm circular polarizing lens filter for diminishing glare
- MH-18a battery charger
- Two Nikon batteries (EN-EL3e)
- GGS Optical Glass LCD Protector
- USB cable for transferring images from camera to PC
- Original D300 user manual and software
I'd ideally like to find someone who is an active photo contributor and wants to upgrade from an inferior camera. I'm donating for free rather than selling because I want it to go the best user possible. I'm located in San Fransciso, California, USA. Thanks for your offers! Offers[edit]
May I offer myself at taker? I do not having my own camera! I always borrow or use my Motorola EX115 mobile. -- Biswarup Ganguly (talk) 05:23, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I would love it! I only have the crappiest Sony camera one can buy. I always upload my images PD, and lots of them. The trouble is, I live in China. I would be happy to pay the UPS. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:32, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I would like to be new user of this Nikon as well ;) I had Canon 60d once in my hands and loved possibilities of DSLRs. Currently I'm focused on shooting monuments and famous buildings in my home city (plenty of them are missing), I can also shoot photos from hot-air balloons almost everywhere in Poland. - Sunridin (talk) 10:08, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I could come out of retirement, contribute pictures from Iran, and Pakistan. IDangerMouse (talk) 10:17, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I currently own a D3000 and I am no longer a newbie in photography, so this camera would be a step higher. As a student I cannot afford not even a D3000, for which I took a loan which is not payed yet. I wish to buy some new lenses, the 55-200mm. If I get this camera, I would change mine with the lenses. Having just portrait lenses prevent you from shooting a lot of awesome images from nature such as animals. I recently experienced the disadvantages of not having professional equipment at an Air Show (I have photos uploaded to Commons). I will support any shipping costs in case of accepting me. Daniel Message 12:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I have contributed in commons for many years, I have traveled to the remotest places to get good photographs (up to 2 weeks without civilization), I have visited remote villages to capture what words can not be captured. I live in a country where buying a Nikon d300, I would take together for 3 years, I would have to collect 70% of my salary. I have performed many experiments to counteract the adverse effects of having a small sensor. Sometimes I made camouflage clothing and have spent a whole day waiting for a bird this close to me. If you decide to send this beautiful camera, I would contribute the same way as I did, I would facilitate achieving best shots. My work focuses on places where nobody goes, I like to capture the poverty, the emotion in the faces of people, nature and environmental pollution. I remember feeling frustration at being rejected some of my photos made with great difficulty due to the small sensor problem, for months I dedicated myself to paint things that went well with my cheap camera. I've never had a camera like the Nikon D300 in my hands, yet I promise you study it and get the maximum juice. I studied in a professional photographic concepts, however, I could apply that knowledge, I had to settle gadget as CHKD, I programmed scripts for things that my camera can not do. If you decide to give me this camera, I can not pay the shipping, however, I would love this camera, I take care and protect her, my faithful companion. Thank you very much. --Wilfredor (talk) 13:10, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Conclusion[edit]
I appreciate all your offers, and many of you are great dedicated contributors. I reviewed contributions and other information and have selected Wilfredor to receive the camera. Their dedication as explained above is reflected in their extensive upload history, and they show a strong familiarity with both technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. My only concern was that because of their low income and location they would be unable to supplement the 18-55mm lens to form a complete lens kit. As such I have taken the liberty of ordering two cheap but high-quality lenses to complement this kit, the Sigma 50-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Sigma 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 and the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D. I'm also adding on a cheap lens cleaning kit, and will cover the cost of shipping. I'll follow up with them by e-mail. Dcoetzee (talk) 14:47, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

- I am so pleased, have informed family and friends. I had never received an award like that, that beautiful camera, I've been thinking about many ways to thank this. I can not stand the excitement. I receive humbly and with great appreciation. I do not know what to say right now, I'm ordering my thoughts that pass quickly. --Wilfredor (talk) 15:25, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

- Congratulation Wilfredor, and many many thanks to Dcoetzee, for your wonderful initiative, you have shown an example, in fact there are so many people those are having good unused equipments, if they donate some part to the low income group of dedicated photographers, Commons will be benefited. -- Biswarup Ganguly (talk) 16:36, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- I came here to try and get the camera, but decided against it when I saw Wilfredor's post. I look forward to seeing the world through that camera (freely licenced, of course), and think that you'll do a better job than I ever could. Sven Manguard Wha? 16:58, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

A very generous contribution Dcoetzee and congats to Wilfredor. I just had a thought about the voltage input of the charger. Does it accept 120 through 240 volts 50/60Hz input as many do nowadays? You may wish to ship it with fully charged batteries incase there is a delay to find a way to charge them. I assume it is coming from a 120 volt 60 Hz country.--Canoe1967 (talk) 20:21, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- MH-18a battery charger, Input: 100v-240V, AC50/60Hz. I just checked on Ebay.--Canoe1967 (talk) 20:27, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- So glad to see this generosity, and even gladder to see you didn't waste an expensive camera on me since I hardly understand how to use the cheapo one I've got!

Just pointing out something else - if others carry on this initiative, it has the potential to help against systemic bias by getting good equipment into the hands of photographers in places where it's harder to obtain it. Kudos and super excited on behalf of all involved :D sonia 00:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- So happy about the initiative too and that Wilfredor got the first donation. I have often thought that if there was one user who deserved a donated DSLR it would be him. Extremely generous of Dcoetzee to also buy supplementary lenses and pay for the shipping. Way to go!. Looking forward to seeing more high quality contribs from Venezuela. But many other users could benefit from this program, also the users users who came to this page. I hope this will not be a standalone example. --Slaunger (talk) 12:59, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
I am very sorry that the others who tendered were unable to get the team good luck for next time. I hope this does not discourage you. I am extremely happy and fills me with joy to know that soon came that beautiful camera in my hands, I have prepared a place for her and glasses in my room. Before this camera remember spending whole days better photos with gimp, then I decided to paint things and I was pretty good, to the end I gave up, just as it happened, you told me about this Slaunger offer that could not reject, I steeled myself and I discuss how much I love this project and as though I have not had the resources sufficient for a good camera, I never leave. I learned things as camouflage in the jungle, and be patient, take a deep breath and wait a day for a good shot, I learned to live with Indians or persons unknown, to earn the confidence to get good shots. I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful initiative to help our brothers in the Third World can not have access to purchase a quality camera. Hopefully this is possible, over time, the cameras will be better (planned obsolescence) in a market system that drives us to buy cameras at every turn there will always be room for reaching out to a brother. Thank you all. --Wilfredor (talk) 03:15, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- Congratulations to Wilfredor, and many thanks to Dcoetzee for his initiative and generosity. Yann (talk) 09:22, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I second that. The camera is going into the right hands, and Dcoetzee is very kind indeed. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:04, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
A couple of days the camera has come to hand. I would make a public thanks to Coetzee. As he has promised the camera has arrived, the community should support these activities. It's a real beauty camera, holds quite comfortable and the sound of blast is just beautiful. Right now I'm using my old camera as reconnaissance camera. Then go with the DCoetzee camera. I have had the opportunity to throw in paragliding with D300 camera for some shots, I also photographed some plants, a total of only about 23 shots. I'm thinking that photograph well, I would not let you down, I've been doing my best to capture beautiful pictures, even with my old camera and that's the reason you have had so many good photos lately. --Wilfredor (talk) 14:33, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

- Cameras have been distributed.
After User:Russavia mentioned this page on Sunday, I have secured five four megapixel Kodak digital cameras to give away for the price of shipping. The cameras all appear to be in good working order. They will require two AA batteries, and an SD card (available from $3 shipped on eBay). They were given away by a local primary school, which has upgraded to newer technology. Ideally these will go to people without a digital camera in an area with poor photographic coverage on Wikimedia projects. I would appreciate help finding those people - they are unlikely to be frequenting commons. JJ Harrison (talk) 06:53, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- JJ, I have an editor in Uzbekistan and an editor in Cambodia in mind. I will get in touch with you about them, and will point them to this post too. Cheers, russavia (talk) 07:02, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have another editor from Kenya who is interested JJ. I will email you with their details as well. russavia (talk) 11:08, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- On the off chance that you can't find five people that are more deserving than a college student in Boston with a questionable history of uploading his own work, I'll take one. My camera broke over six months ago and I haven't replaced it. Seriously though, if you find five other people that are good candidates, don't even consider me. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:21, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'll keep you posted. There may be the possibility of seeking more cameras after these yet. JJ Harrison (talk) 08:02, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- The editor in Uzbekistan would be me. I can take and upload pictures of Tashkent, both historical and contemporary buildings, bazaars, people, etc. Although I don't know whether it's interesting or not. Abdullais4u (talk) 07:17, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Abdulla, that sounds good for me. I sent you an email. Let me know if you don't get it. JJ Harrison (talk) 07:44, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- I am Stephen and here comes another application from East Africa in Kenya. Well this part of the world is lowly represented on commons and the other Wikimedia projects as well. Personally I do not own a camera and I would love to have one of this to use for capturing images to upload on commons.Having one of this would be a much appreciated gift by me and other Wikimedians residing here. In fact we had previously done a photowalk around our city and we only had a single camera in a group of 5 Wikimedians and I hope securing one of this would have a positve impact on such initiatives that we plan to have in due course. Thanks russavia for the heads up and the rest of you for reading my request :) stephenWanjau Talk to Me. Email Me. 08:10, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I donate a used black version of a Samsung ES81 (+battery and an charger). It is a simple camera, easy to use. Thank You!--Steinsplitter (talk) 12:41, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Candidatures[edit]
- I've lost my compact so could use it. Some photos I took with a compact in the past: the Thalys indoor (i) (ii), a tunnel, a red light in 3 colors, a metro.
My first use of it would be to photography the Charleroi (Belgium) new metro stations, to be put in service Q2 2013 and not yet available on Commons. --Dereckson (talk) 16:49, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Note that due to the lack of panorama in Belgium, the photos of metro stations open in 2013 can not be uploaded on Commons. Without any prejudice to the nomination.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:21, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe were a little bit enthousiastic talking about "station": the new portion resurrects an old tram line, in site propre (road dedicated to the tram). The stops are platform slightly elevated, without any original architectural work (there is one exception: a serie of black arches at one place, meeting originality and so blocked by lack of FoP). The interest of these pictures is to answer exhaustively and offer a comprehensive set of collections of one photo by metro stop. As a Commons administrator, I handle FoP cases, and as a speaker, I gave talks about FoP e.g. here, for an artist residency, so I tend to forget it's not clear everyone knows FoP issues by heart and knows very well it's okay when saying I'm going to upload recent architectural stuff.
- Oh by the way, I received in private an observation this equipment exchange procedure should be mainly targeted to people with difficult access otherwise to material, like Southern hemisphere users. If such candidature would arise, I will withdraw mine. --Dereckson (talk) 19:31, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- Equipment exchange is for anyone who needs it, and it's up to the donator who they think is the best person to give it to. So please don't feel bound to withdraw. :-) I also agree with your statements about FOP and the station (not all architectural works are copyrightable). Dcoetzee (talk) 08:43, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
