Bridge Vittorio Emanuele II at Night
Colin, if I did like the other picture someone would say "Why don't you have taken up the entire bridge ?". It happens that someone like a composition and others the other. Then the quality depends, in part certainly not totally, also the lens used and the machine. I have a Nikon D3200 and I do what I can do with an economic machine. Moreover it also depends what time it is one thing and one thing is the sunset at night. Also as you can see in my picture the dome of the Vatican was turned off while in the other, and this is also not ago that the two pictures are very comparable. Regards.--LivioAndronico talk 14:30, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The image quality is fine. A D3200 is a good camera with a great sensor. The problem here is the dark night. One third of the image is simply black sky, and the illumination of the bridge is so yellow that any other tones are lost. There is a reason why the blue hour is so popular and imo that is because a blue sky with some ambient brightness gives a far more pleasing impression than black and yellow. There are many images like this one around, and I feel that they lack the wow to be FP. Benh has several images taken at during the blue hour and although the yellow lights are also around, it is easy to see that the overall impression is nicer. I have revisited several places many times to find a good time for a FP, like here, and sometimes you have to be early to get something special. Timing and lighting is so crucial for this kind of photography... --DXR (talk) 15:32, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We don't award FP because this is the best you could do with a Nikon D3200 at 23:26 on 15 December 2014. We award it because it is the among the finest on Commons. My quality concerns here are nothing to do with the camera. This has a light-polluted black sky. Better pictures are taken when the weather and sun produces better lighting in the sky (e.g. blue hour). This has buildings hidden in darkness and with an almost monochromatic yellow lighting. Better pictures are taken when key buildings are lit and with more colours. A better composition/crop would have not chopped famous buildings and would have less uninteresting sky. Your D3200 and lens are perfectly capable of taking FP-quality photos. Please don't claim that your very modern 24MP camera is a handicap. Jebulon took his photo with a 14MP camera from 2009 and a travel superzoom. Your D3200 may be a relatively basic camera in Nikon's range, but it has all the essential functions and a sensor that any Canon shooter would envy. I've taken plenty FPs with an entry-level 2010 camera and cheap plastic lenses. In fact, I might just nominate Jebulon's other photo, it's so good. -- Colin (talk) 15:56, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"We don't award FP because this is the best you could do with a Nikon D3200 at 23:26 on 15 December 2014." and I said this? Reread please, I said I have several times !!! Do not change the direction of the things that I say, please. "We award it because it is the among the finest on Commons" But really? "Your D3200 and lens are perfectly capable of taking FP-quality photos"I know, I already have 3."Jebulon took his photo with a 14MP camera from 2009 and a travel superzoom" And then??? A superior camera makes pictures above." I might just nominate Jebulon's other photo, it's so good." and what interests me Colin? You can name picture of who you want, how I could name excellent photos of Poco a poco,Christian Ferrer,Cccefalon or Jacek Halicki. Your are free.I do not understand your statements, especially the last part.--LivioAndronico talk 16:35, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
LivioAndronico, it seems neither of us understand each other. But I see what game you are playing here and that's really not on. -- Colin (talk) 20:03, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know you but I'm not playing, I also motivated my vote do you need more Colin? --LivioAndronico talk 21:04, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
