The album has 100+ photos of this transmitter site, which is not accessible for the public, with the right licence.

The Flickr file names "IMG nnnn.jpg" should be changed to "Flevo shortwave IMG nnnn.jpg" on Commons, "shortwave" being the English translation for the Dutch "Korte golf" in the name of the transmitter site. --RSAG (talk) 14:07, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

I can import it, but can not rename it during upload. What should I do? --Slick (talk) 12:33, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

The State Library of New South Wales has many images in Flickr Commons sets relating to WWI. Specifically: ANZAC Day, Armistice Day. These images are in the public domain (no known copyright restrictions). (See also the collaboration page WP:GLAM/SLNSW)

Suggest using {{PD-Australia}} in Category:Images from the State Library of NSW

Copyright is going to be fun with this set. For a lot of the images taken in Australia I'm pretty sure {{PD-Australia}} applies, but take for example this image, that's probably too recent. For the images in Europe it's going to be a even bigger puzzle.

Note that the Flickr "no known copyright restrictions" is not compatible with the precautionary principle (one of our core policies) so that is pretty useless for us I'm afraid. Multichill (talk) 16:09, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

State Library of NSW can provide OTRS release for these images, the 1957 example cited above is a Sam Hood image and the Library is the copyright holder. The images taken in Europe were published in Australia, can anyone advise on their status? Please contact Aliaretiree for further information. Aliaretiree (talk) 01:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Sounds great, Aliaretiree. Need help asking for the release or getting it into OTRS? Feel free to post the request you plan on sending before you send it if you want guidance; it's important it be done correctly, hand best to get right the first time. --Elvey (talk) 02:08, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Graduating class- officer candidates, A.A.F.T.T.C., Miami Beach, Florida[edit]

Collection of Tichnor Brothers postcards relating to the Army Air Force Training at what is now Edwards Air Force base. Released by the Boston Public Library. Please note that they have posted they with a CC license, but we have confirmed that they were published before 1978 with no copyright notice, so the license would need to be changed after upload. (I can do this if needed).

Please upload all the images on this page with "A.A.F.T.T.C" in the image title.

I checked the stream and all images (with usable licence) should imported IMHO, because thats a greate collection. All images I see has Rights: No known restrictions but under CC license. I think we should import them with the CC licence (in a single category) and later a bot can scan this category and replace the licence on all images that have Rights: No known restrictions in the description and maybe format the description with the given values. Thats the easiest way I guess. Other Opinions? --Slick (talk) 11:38, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Messenger dogs and handler near Villers-Bretonneux, 1918[edit]

messenger dogs and handler near Villers-Bretonneux, 1918 is a Flickr file with "no known copyright restrictions".

Originally from the Australian War Memorial's collection (, where it is licensed as "copyright expired - public domain".

See the two battles of Villers Bretonneux on EnWiki.

Himes Family Trip to Europe (1890)[edit]

Charles Francis Himes (1838-1918) travelled in 1890 to Europe by ship and shot these pictures. After his death the Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) archived his inheritance (Details) and published the images on Flickr. In the Flickr album exist 108 pictures. They show the city of Gießen and the surroundings in a very special way. Due to its age these pics are {{PD-old-90}} and {{PD-US}}. On Flickr the pictures are licensed with "(c) Alle Rechte vorbehalten." (All rights reserved), but IMO this is copyfraud. --Emha (talk) 09:55, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

I like to get a second opinion about the suggested images and licences before uploading. It is not possible to import images market as not free with the "default" flickrripper-script, so we will need a special import script here. Is there anybody with knowledge about this? --Slick (talk) 10:36, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Symbol support vote.svg Support I suggest to use {{PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=1918}} to make is easier for the future. Following some links from one of the Flickr image to come to the Collection Register where is stated:

  • Donation: Gift of Mary Himes Vale and Sarah Vale Rush, 1947
  • Usage: These materials have been donated without restrictions on usage.

My conclusion: Fine to upload to Commons, very valueble content! Raymond 11:02, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Laos Photos[edit]

These photos of various things in Laos released under a CC-BY-2.0 license. The images all have descriptive names so that shouldn't be a problem. Laos doesn't have have freedom of panorama and it appears that images containing the interior or exterior of buildings cannot be uploaded. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:43, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Note that COM:FOP#Laos only refers to "works of fine art, photographs, reports and adapted arts". I'll raise this at the village pump. Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:56, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, after discussion I would request that only images that don't contain artwork, structures, or buildings at all be uploaded. The rest will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Ryan Vesey Review me! 16:59, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

If you dont wish to import the entire stream, we need some help to identify the range of images to upload. Please give a range (or more than one) of (include) start and (exclude) end image. i.E.:

  • from (the first in stream) 7325846016 to (exclude the third) 7325845540 (this example means only import the first and second image in the stream)

And please suggest a category we can import to. --Slick (talk) 11:02, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Brazilian plants[edit]

This is a request to upload this flickr set by João de Deus Medeiros. This set is composed as of now of 1,449 nature images. These images have a filename with their latin cientific name, as well as a description to where it was taken. Files, as far as I can tell, are licensed CC-BY-2.0. Some images were already uploaded, I'd like all files with the "right" Flickr license.
The batch must be checked afterwards, Category:Flora of Cerrado to check, for instance
The resulting categorization tree might be:

I can import all images to a single category, but I am not able to rewrite the script to place the files in different categories. Should I import them to a single "to check" category? --Slick (talk) 12:24, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Library and Archives/Bibliothèque et Archives Canada Flickr looks like great sets of images. I am not especially interested in that, but I reckon this would be a good addition to the project. Jean-Fred (talk) 20:17, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

In which category should I put this upload ? - Zil (d) 07:55, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Thinking a bit more, I believe it would be great to retrieve from the Flickr description data and to map it into our template fields... Looks easy using regexes, but I do not know if it is possible to do so at upload time (got to look into flickripper source code). Would love to do so but definitely not in the next few weeks. Jean-Fred (talk) 08:23, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm not able to do that. It could be easier to do that after the upload on all the pictures in a specific category. - Zil (d) 12:07, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
In fact the file desciption came from FLinfo and not from flickrripper. - Zil (d) 12:07, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Images by Flickr User trialsanderrors[edit]

Over a thousand of Photos by Flickr User trialsanderrors are images from the Library of Congress that have been retouched and improved and are in the public domain. The images have been uploaded on August 12th by Multichil and are now in need of categorization. Since this is a batch upload from flickr I created this page to facilitate it better.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 20:41, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Multichill Categorizing BotMultichillT Category:Images_from_trialsanderrors_to_check

  1. All files need to be stripped of the "Flickr - …trialsanderrors - " prefix.
  2. All CC/Flickr licenses need to be replaced with the proper PD licenses. This might go in conjunction with categorization.
  • THis is not true. A restoration can introduce a new copyright. Probably best to leave them as CC-BY. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:40, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
  • Since those are my "restorations", the decision would be mine, no? ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 11:54, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
  1. All Flickr files are tagged with information about the LOC collection which might help categorizing. For instance, a tag "nclc" should go into Category:Photographs of child laborers by Lewis Hine and tagged with {{PD-NCLC}}. These tags don't seem to have been imported, and for some tags no proper Commons categories exist (for instance, Category:Performing Arts Posters for the Performing Arts Posters Collection).
(Created {{PD-VAR}} and categories, anymore need made? — raeky (talk | edits) 18:59, 16 August 2010 (UTC) )
See below. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 11:51, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
  2. For all images, the description from Flickr need to be replaced with the descriptions from the LOC. This can be done via the static links that appear on the Flickr description behind the "This picture" link.
  3. There are about 200 duplicates of Commons uploads which need to be identified.
  4. There are a number of PD-1923 files which need to be transwikied to and deleted.
  5. Retrieve creation/copyright year from file name or "date taken" (all file names end with the four digit year, the "date taken" info on Flickr is sometimes unreliable, but sometimes also provides month and day)
Perhaps the date can be fetched from the "Date Created/Published"-field on LOC's pages and transformed into either YYYY-MM-DD format (which is automatically translated) or in {{other date}}-compatible format. Example with this one from here.
Either one works. The dates I posted in the title are backed by additional research, so in toto they should be more accurate (especially the photochroms), but the LOC description is clearly the default. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 12:35, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm adding stuff as things come to my mind. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 12:39, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Shanghai Expo[edit]

The Shanghai Expo is a large event which needs a lot of illustrations and has many free pics on flickr. Uploading them would improve visualization to the various articles related to the expo. I'll list here some of the users on flickr who have free pictures of the event:

I am unsure about this images. As in the descriptions all images are from "Paul Philip Abrigo" and there is a copyright watermark in the images. And I am not sure he is the owner of this stream and the CC licence is correct. Please add your comment about. --Slick (talk) 20:46, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

World Economic Forum[edit]

All the various sets from Photostream. About 3,000 images of various leaders and celebrities. The images would fill the various subcategories on Category:World_Economic_Forum.
