Reducing the number of maintenance templates.

I thought {{unknown}} was depreciated. All the "unknown" style templates should be depreciated and {{no source since}} should be used whenever possible (in the form of {{subst:nsd}}). There is also {{no license}} and subst:nld but they are covered in no source since/nsd. pfctdayelise (translate?) 02:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Delete and deletebecause should be worked into the same template, so that you can supply an argument (the reason) or not. It's just the technical question of how to do this. I'm sure templates have optional arguments now, I just don't know how to do it. Beyond these 2 points, I don't think you can simplify any more. pfctdayelise (translate?) 02:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes I was also thinking leaving {{no source since}} only for missing legally required information. I'd avoid using delete templates with variables and replacing "deletebecause" by "delete" as you can everytime give after the template the reason for your tagging and the template text could also point out that you need to give a reason; See for example the similar template in de.wikipedia de:Vorlage:LöschantragBild and an example using it: de:Bild:Papst+Christdoulos.jpg. That way we would also stick to KISS. :-) I think a further problem is wording. "delete" should be renamed to "speedy-delete" and after all speedies are worked up one time the redirect from "delete" to "speedy-delete" should point to "deletionrequest". I came several times across persons that wanted a normal deletion request and used "delete" and caused some avoidable problems (in "cooperation" with an uncareful admin).

User:Duesentrieb has a fairly complete list of all Commons delete templates for creating the local project deletion notifier system (we could use this notifier system as well inside Commons for user talk pages; it would avoid a lot of frustrating work as around 2/3 - 3/4 of all notified persons never reply and together with babel templates set at the user page you could also use localised notifiers automatically), see de:Benutzer:Duesentrieb/Sandbox how it looks like at the moment (the first entries are modified layout suggests by me; this were the results for de.wikipedia for 12 hours).
