===[[User:Gebruikersnaam|Gebruikersnaam]]===
{{custom edit|Template:Administrators/Requests and votes/Gebruikersnaam|text='''Vote'''}}

AFBorchert has accumulated over 3000 edits and has proven to be cool-headed and reasoned. He tends to weigh in in areas where he is an expert in what he is talking about and/or has done some research, leading to excellent constructive remarks. He warned me that he "will never be able to turn into a heavy-duty admin like Herbythyme or Siebrand", but I believe that Commons has everything to win by having him as an admin; I trust that he will take very valuable decisions in his areas of expertise and that he has the character to make a great admin. Pruneautalk 11:08, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Pruneau, for the kind nomination which I accept. Commons is one of the two wikis I feel at home, de-wp being the other one. So far, I was mainly uploading images, working on the category system, and participating in a couple of discussions about licensing issues and deletion requests. I could start helping out with some of the backlogs. So far, I wasn't nominated for adminship on any of the Wikimedia projects. Because of this, I would start slowly and hopefully more constructively over time. Being at Commons since 2005, I think that I have gained some familiarity with this projects and its policies. --AFBorchert (talk) 22:38, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Votes

  •  Support as nominator. Pruneautalk 11:08, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Oppose, regretfully. AFB is barely active. His last 50 edits go back to 12 October. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to promote inactive people to admin. I'll happily support in a month or so with more steady active. Best wishes, How do you turn this on (talk) 22:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Support We always need admins, even if they're not super active. Take a look at Category:Duplicate. RlevseTalk 22:14, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
A good argument for not promoting inactive users is that it's unlikely they will be doing a lot of work. I want to see evidence of steady work as of late. I don't see it. BTW, your link is red. How do you turn this on (talk) 22:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Being an admin does not require doing a lot of work. The key question is, can we trust the user with the tools? Here, yes we can. Fixed the link. RlevseTalk 17:09, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Support Notably thoughtful user, knows the project very well, and makes well thought out and useful contributions in a variety of areas where help is badly needed, especially copyright issues and DRs. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 23:04, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Support Thoughtful and international community sense. --Foroa (talk) 06:59, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
  • For seen good interactions from this user. Not so quite active but we need more admins. This is a user which I believe we can just bend our strict criteria a little ;) Good luck! --Kanonkas(talk) 13:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Support Excellent work, at least while active, so he/she deserves the tools. —Ceran (speak) 14:37, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Oppose per "How do you turn this on". Please become more active again first. abf /talk to me/ 15:45, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Support per User:MichaelMaggs. --Túrelio (talk) 19:27, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
  •  Oppose [1]; [2]; because admins should be some kind of role model; despite of that I think he's doing good work; a super-active admin is nice to have, but if he's doing some work it should be ok --Isderion (talk) 17:08, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
What's so worrying about those two diffs? Is it because on one of the pages AFBorchert wrote "This template includes legal information which is used by hundreds of my uploaded photographs. Nobody is allowed to change these legal terms except me". Please correct me if I am wrong. --Kanonkas(talk) 23:39, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
As you can see, this is a user template (which is used by a lot of pictures). This is in contrary to the suggestions made on COM:USER#Templates: AFB's template doesn't use the Template:Information as basis. He also doesn't subst his template as suggested. My experience is that such user templates cause harm (e.g. [3] or confusion (see [4] for example: under which licence was the image original uploaded?) Admins are some kind of role model (Vorbild) and I don't want other users doing the same. --Isderion (talk) 02:07, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Oversight Rights

Page revisions can be Oversighted, so that they no longer appear in page history, and can only be restored by developers, although they can be seen in source form by those with the oversight permission while they remain in the oversight log. The right is used to remove material that may give rise to legal challenges or to remove offensive or attack based material from view, especially when concerning a person's real life identity, full name, address, telephone number etc. Note: As with Checkuser, a wiki must have at least 2 "Oversighters" for accountability and to serve as checks and balances. 25 votes in support, and at least 80% positive votes overall are required to grant the right. Note also that in accordance with recent practice, requests for Oversight will run for 2 weeks.

[edit] Requests for Bot Flags

[edit] LinkFA-Bot

Operator: Guandalug@de-WP

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic: Unsupervised (after an initial test period)

Programming Language(s): PHP, own Framework (already used for other tasks on de, en, simple, ....)

Edit period(s) daily, one edit per night

Bot flag requested: Yes

Functions: This bot should only makes sure images used on the de-wikipedia mainpage are vandalism-protected using a combination of cascade-protected page with date-depending include, and a gallery created 'just in time' on the include coming up for the next day. The needed framework can be found at User:Bdk/de and its subpages, and is used / updated with Bdk's knowledge and permission.

Example edits will be coming in one per day (as to be expected).

[edit] Discussion

Just for the record: I do not think I really require a botflag for this task, but running a script that flags its edits as 'Bot:' edits once a day at least makes it wise to ask for one. If it's decreed that the bot can do its designated task without a botflag, it will. Guandalug (talk) 17:23, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 555.bot

To prevent new floods of uploads on my main user account, I would like to get a bot flag in this account. It's only purpose is to mass upload .png public domain book scans taken from various sources (Google Book Search, National Library of Brazil, National Library of Portugal etc) in order to play within ProofreadPage extension on Wikisource.

Q/A:

I will be using the commonist to mass upload the files. Lugusto 20:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Could you please make a test run? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:17, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Done: I've uploaded the first 30 pages from a book of 148 pages (but MediaWiki don't render then =( ). Lugusto 02:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Looks OK for me. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
The categories are incorrect, please fix it. Multichill (talk) 22:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Nuked the .pngs, replacing by .jpgs files (I hope that MediaWiki now supports it). Please re-check.
@Multichill: the category is the name of the book. This is done like as in Category:Scanned English texts (the fully categorization is done only at the category that have the book name). Please let me known if you have any suggestions of different category schemas.
Lugusto 19:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Category:Os Sambaquis de São Paulo is just fine (the first uploads contained a non-existant category). It would be nice if you included a {{BookNaviBar}}. Multichill (talk) 20:11, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
