I'm not sure if I need to make a request, but hey, just to be sure... I am an admin here, so know to be careful. I have just started AWB on en-wiki, but now that I think about it, I would probably use it even more on Commons. --99of9 (talk) 03:07, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Are you looking for someone specific? A 'crat, a steward? If not, just start. I am 101% sure you won't do anything controversial with it. -- RE rillke questions? 11:24, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
I think even admins have to be added to Commons:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage, so that AWB will find them when they log on. Any Admin can do it, which I did.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 15:13, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Admins don't need to be listed there. I've edited the Guide to perhaps make this more prominent. Rd232 (talk) 22:58, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I had thought that the AWB list was wholly separate from other rights. Guess not.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 00:16, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh, it is separate in the sense that it's nothing to do with MediaWiki. AWB is just programmed to check if a user is a local admin, and grant access if that's the case. Rd232 (talk) 18:48, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I've seen a lot of files categorized as being in New York City, New York, when they're actually in Buffalo, New York. I suspect someone got confused between New York City and New York state. I'd like to use AWB to scan through things in Buffalo and remove the categories placing them in New York City. I have been using AWB for a long time on the English and Simple English Wikipedias. I have AWB on en.wp. I have been blocked on it before, but not in the past 18 months and never because I performed vandalism or any action that is intentionally detrimental to that project, just sloppy or out-of-process. I would generally use AWB to diffuse categories by creating and populating subcats. For what it's worth, I am also fairly active on w:WP:CFD as well. I have over 1,500 edits over seven years, I've uploaded dozens of images, and I have several user rights on en.wp and was given admin rights on the outreach wiki simply for being a trusted member. When using the AWB bot, please use a signature that links to a Commons page, not en:wiki. --Foroa (talk) 15:27, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Trijnstel. Foroa: are you sure? My Commons talk page is just a soft redirect to my en talk page. Are you worried that I won't see complaints as I am running AWB? Should I get rid of my soft redirect? — hike395 (talk) 03:44, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't care about the softredirect as people can still write where they want. I am worrying about your signature (talk) that sends to the en:wikipedia. A big part of our plant experts are not native English, so I am wondering how you would react when clicking on a user talk field and you arrive in a French, German, Polish or Russian wikipedia. --Foroa (talk) 06:16, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I already use AWB on occasion to perform maintenance tasks on Seeing as many of my upload images have been sent to commons, AWB access on commons would allow me to seamlessly do these kinds of things, no matter where a particular file is located. Thank you. Vanisaac (talk) 00:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Do you have any specific task(s) in mind? Sven Manguard Wha? 06:51, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, I ran into this when I was trying to add a category to a bunch of images - I've been involved with a bunch of Braille articles and templates over at - so we've been creating a large number of color coded braille cell images that need to be added to some of the pre-existing braille cell categories, as well as new ones. This is a trivially simple operation - the images are all found on a single page - except that instead of these ~85 images being hosted on en, where I can use AWB, it's on commons. I'm not going to waste an hour clicking through every image to its commons page, editing the image, pasting in categories, pasting in an edit summary, clicking save, waiting for the upload, having to backtrack through so that I can click on the next image, when this is literally a task that can take three minutes for the lot. We're going to have another set of 52 of these guys probably getting moved to commons soon, so this is a problem that's not going away. Vanisaac (talk) 07:06, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
You are aware that categories on Commons may not always align with the categories on en.wikipedia, right? --Philosopher Let us reason together. 20:44, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes, none of the related images are categorized on either - the files don't actually even exist on to be categorized - it's all on commons. The contrast is that I'm trying to do something that would be trivially simple using my standard array of tools, except that these files are hosted on commons and my tool is blocked here. Vanisaac (talk) 21:56, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
