While granted some of my move requests recently have been because I've named something wrong, there are plenty of files out there that need to be moved for various reasons; I would like to help with that. I've been involved with BS Icons creation and naming for a while now, and there is still a large number of these icons that were named under ambiguous or outdated conventions that need to be moved. I found more and more files with useless names in the last time, which I really would love to help renaming. (To be honest, the concrete reason for this request was a look at Category:United States Army Band. Since the last year I'm using Commons more frequently and I now have already more than 10.000 edits and uploaded about 450 own images and quite a few other files. (By the way: I'm using useful names when I do that ;) ) In September I also got license reviewer rights. It would be nice, if I could move files on my own! Thank you. To be honest, I made only 872 edits, but I've Patroller & Rollbacker rights, which means that some admins here think I'm a trusted user. :) In other hand, it's not an official policy to grant the flag to only users made edits between 1,000 and 1,500. I really need the flag; since I find images, in Commons, named in Arabic language with wrong spelling, which causes problems with our local bots that fixing Arabic spelling, see this edit for an example. I also upload svg images which their names conflict with names of some png images I improve, see File:Flag of Alexandria2.svg for an example. Sometimes I make renaming requests (example). There have been a lot of ice hockey images that were uploaded with the help of the Upload Bot (Magnus Manske). These images were not properly named and so there are named using the convention of the camera (such as File:ERI 3076 (5360437365).jpg) I would like to be able to move them without flooding the system with requests. I made already 2000+ edits and I am autopatrolled user on commons and editor on Polish Wiki. I found a lot of images from Poland and Wrocław (my home city) which need to be renamed. There are hundreds of these images in Category:Photos taken by Andrzej Jurkowski Category:Photographs by Marek and Ewa Wojciechowscy and other categories. I'm working towards an automated upload of some images released by the British Library -- initially 430 showcase images released by BL images online [2], then selected images from the 50,000 volumes in the BL mechanical curator set.
It would be useful to have filemover rights to make any adjustments that need to be made after the upload, for example to fit in with existing series namings, or to fix any mistakes, without having to bother others. Thank you. Jheald (talk) 14:13, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I request File mover rights for my Account, I've made slightly more than 1K edits, I'm also Filemover at en.wikipedia, I request this right to make/move/renaming file for misspelling (some is my own fault when typing too fast) some is because misspelling under different language (not translating them to English by the way, just correcting the typos under their own language), other reason is renaming to widen the search result on search engine box. I am a former administrator here (lapsed due to inactivity in early 2008), but I've recently begun to get more active again. I don't presently need admin rights again, but as I'm uploading a lot of photographs and categorising a lot more I find that I'm making a few renaming requests. I do a lot of work at both the Commons and Wikipedia graphics labs, and occasionally it is useful to rename newly vectorised images in order to correct errors, or to be most helpful to the requester; for instance, this file. Green Giant[edit]

In the short term I have been trying to sort out files in Category:Images taken by Law Keven, originally because many of them needed categorising but I have found that a significant number of them have filenames that are joking comments made by the original uploader at Flickr. The files that I have sorted and requested renames for can be found in Category:Files from Keven Law Flickr stream. However there are still about 700 files to go through and I don't want to swamp the filemovers with numerous requests. I understand the effect that moving files can have on so many other projects, so in the medium to long term I would like to help out with renaming requests. Thank you. I've requested renaming of over 20 files here at Commons, and over 40 at En.WP. I am an admin at En.WP where I primarily work in the file namespace. I am one of a handful of admins who clerks the en:Wikipedia:RFP/FM board for granting this equivalent right. Prior to my adminship, I was a file mover with well over 100 successful file moves using the same policies as on Commons. I've also renamed over 100 files in the process of transferring from En.WP to Commons. I don't need the tool much, but with working with files that have been transferred from En.WP, I am starting to see a need for this right. Frankly, I'm surprised that I haven't requested it sooner. Well back then at October 2013 I requested for filemover. But my request got declined as I got only 124 edits. But now after 8 months I'm requesting again. Now I have almost 120+ uploads, 40+ perfect rename request and 2000 edits (almost when requesting this right). Moreover I upload image regularly now so sometimes mistake happens so I think I can fix them myself rather than waiting for a C:FM or C:ADMIN to fix that. After several years of uploading, I have found that there is a level of inconsistency with file names of pictures I have uploaded. This category provides a good example of pictures taken at the same location spanning over time but due to how the files have been named, it just looks like a big unorganized mess. While I may once or twice requested the renaming of files, I have not requested the much larger task of organizing file names of my own uploads. Hi. I spend most of my time on commons browsing or uploading images of dinosaurs and related organisms. As these animals are relatively well-known by non-experts, many images of them get uploaded with extremely generic titles (eg. "Dinosaur"). I spend quite a lot of time requesting that these images are moved to a more specific and/or correct name, which is why I request to become a filemover. I have over 1000 live edits and 1050 total edits, and have made large numbers of move requests, so I should meet the criteria. If I had filemover rights, I would only move an image when the title was incorrect (eg. wrong spelling, species, genus) or overly generic (eg. I'm a Bulgarian Wikipedia administrator and active editor in several wiki projects since 2006, with 180,000+ edits overall - mainly in Bulgarian Wikipedia (120,000+) and in Wikimedia Commons (40,000+), less in Wikidata, Russian, English, French and other wikipedias and wiki projects. My activity here was principally to check and correct the categorization of Bulgaria-related files (mostly the administrative regions, municipalities, cities and villages), to categorize unidentified files and to create new categories, if necessary. I've noticed that a lot of files' names are erroneous, misleading or meaningless - contrary to correct infos applied and/or my personal knowledge of concerned places. Therefore I'd like to get the filemover right in order to continue successfully correcting mainly Bulgaria-related files. Then it comes to mass high loads, such as at the de:Projekt Heißluftballon, (File:Projekt_Heißluftballon_-_Highflyer_-IMG-1426.jpg). Every now and then I see when machining in space Category: Error in filename because it would be good if I have the opportunity to correct this quickly. Greetings, over the last few years I have uploaded approximately 1100 images to Wikipedia/Commons. I have frequently worked with and have added image files to numerous articles on English Wikipedia and have requested about 56 file moves here at Commons, all of which were needed and were granted. I am very mindful of renaming policy and would only rename files in real need of it. I work with images of vintage postage stamps mostly and can tell you there are still a good number of such images that need renaming, many with cryptic and otherwise meaningless names, however, I would only rename files as I go along when the occasion presents itself. p.s. I sometimes work with RCE-pictures, which have strange names. I sorted out thousands of pictures, but didn't change a lot, I did requests in that time, but not so much, because I couldn't place the pictures that weren't renamed yet. I work on other projects also, so I won't use the tool day in day out, but I can work more efficient and can also change other files in a category when the name is not correct as I see often. And of course I can use the tool for the projects. So, it is handy for me, aswell for people who have to do my changes. I'm honest that I'm not gonna use the tool all the time for requests here from others, but if I have some spare time, I'm ready to help a hand! I have been uploading pictures to Commons since 2011. Starting October 10, I have started working with the Department of Pathology at Calicut Medical College on a GLAM project to bring several images related to pathology to Wikimedia Commons. The second phase of this project is to add these high-quality images to English Wikipedia and Wikipedias in several Indian languages. The project necessitates me to have the filenames changed quickly, before they are being used on Wikipedia projects by other users. I have placed several filemover requests in the last week because of the need for harmonizing names and correcting obvious errors. I will also be writing articles related to pathology as a part of this project, for which I might need to consider moving some files not uploaded by me. I work on fr.wikisource and many books are actually only in PDF format. We have started converting those PDF to DJVU to include an OCR text layer to the books for them to be easier to deal with within the project. Many of these books have already a lot of pages done, so it involves a lot of page renaming if we upload the DJVU file here with another name. Furthermore, we have a file name convention to respect and all those PDF converted to DJVU would bring problems to this filename convention. As we can't upload a new DJVU file with the same name as the PDF file, renaming the PDF (or uploading a different version of the file that I've been told was coming with the same user privilege) would ease our many projects we will need to focus on in the months ahead of us as we wouldn't need to request file renaming each time we'll deal with a new book.
