[edit] Project members
You can become a member by placing the "WikiProject Automobiles" userbox on your userpage by simply adding the template. It adds you to the category of members:

- Or if you don't like the userbox, you can add yourself to the category by adding [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members]] to your userpage.
[edit] Conventions
[edit] Images
- Always use free images; images of vehicles are seldom irreplaceable. Do not use "fair use" promotional images of vehicles.
- Use images of cars in good, complete, clean, and original condition whenever possible. Avoid pictures of heavily customized cars as they may not be very representative of the vehicles most common appearance.
- The file name must clearly identify the vehicle. The year or model year and trim level should be included if the information is available. If not available, use a general descriptor such as "1997-2002" to refer accurately to the depicted vehicle. For example, File:1997-2000 Toyota Camry (SXV20R) CSi sedan 01.jpg.
Here are some things to keep in mind for creating an image of a car:
- The front ¾ view from the height of an ordinary person is normally the best angle for a single picture of a car.
- The lighting of a car is critical to obtaining a good image. Try to take pictures in the middle of the day or under bright but indirect lights. Make sure the sun is behind you—do not shoot into the sun.
- Make sure the car is entirely in frame and is not obscured with objects, people, mud, snow, etc.
- Crop out distracting elements like parking lots, objects, or other cars.
- Do not take photos through window glass, fog, or with poor focus.
[edit] Categories
Categories should be relatively standard all round. The make, model, (model code/generation) format should be used, although the "(model code/generation)" parameter is not compulsory when few images exist in a "make, model" category.
[edit] Make, model, (model code)
In most cases, this format is preferable, but it does not work for every vehicle.
- Category:Toyota Avalon: is the main category.
- Category:Toyota Avalon (MCX10): is sub-category for the first generation Toyota Avalon, with "MCX10" being the model code (written in parentheses).
- Category:Toyota Avalon (MCX20): is sub-category for the second generation Toyota Avalon, with "MCX20" being the model code (written in parentheses).
[edit] Make, model, (generation)
When a model code is unavailable, use the vehicles "generation" instead. Note: "first generation" and "second generation" should be used in lieu of "1st generation" and "2nd generation" and so on:
- Category:Mitsubishi Lancer: is the main category.
- Category:Mitsubishi Lancer (first generation): is sub-category for the first generation Mitsubishi Lancer (with the generation written in parentheses).
- Category:Mitsubishi Lancer (second generation): is sub-category for the second generation Mitsubishi Lancer (with the generation written in parentheses).
[edit] Make, model code, model
Sometimes (rarely) the "model" should be written after the "model code". This is mainly used for Ford Australia, Holden, and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep models:
- Category:Holden VZ: is the main category.
- Category:Holden VZ Ute: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Ute two-door coupe utility.
- Category:Holden VZ Crewman: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Crewman four-door coupe utility.
- Category:Holden VZ Monaro: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Monaro coupe.
- Category:Holden VZ Commodore: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Commodore sedan and station wagon (entry-level and sports).
- Category:Holden VZ Berlina: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Berlina sedan and station wagon (luxury).
- Category:Holden VZ Calais: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Calais sedan (sports-luxury).
- Category:Holden VZ Adventra: is sub-category for the VZ series Holden Adventra crossover SUV.
Another example:
- Category:Jeep KJ: is the main category.
- Category:Jeep KJ Cherokee: is sub-category for the KJ series Jeep Cherokee, the international name for the car.
- Category:Jeep KJ Liberty: is sub-category for the KJ series Jeep Liberty, the North American name for the car.
Another example:
- Category:Chrysler RT: is the main category.
- Category:Chrysler RT Town and Country: is sub-category for the RT series Chrysler Town and Country, the North American name for the car.
- Category:Chrysler RT Voyager: is sub-category for the RT series Chrysler Voyager, the international name for the car.
- Category:Dodge RT Caravan: is sub-category for the RT series Dodge Caravan, the Dodge-branded version of the car.
