Wiki Loves Monuments welcoming e-mail[edit]

Hi there! Thank you for showing interest in participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012! We are looking forward to making this beautiful idea come into reality in your country, but would like first to give you some basic information on the initiative:

  1. Wiki Loves Monuments is a community-organised public photo competition aimed at taking photos of cultural heritage monuments (buildings, memorials, etc.) and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons. Just like Wikipedia, the contest has its five pillars, too — please read about the philosophy behind the project as a start;
  2. If you feel like doing it in your area, please edit the list of participating countries and make sure to subscribe to the public mailing list, and say hello! There are several other ways to contact the people behind Wiki Loves Monuments, so please take a look at our communication page and the WLM who's who for an overview on who's responsible for what in WLM 2012.
  3. When organising the contest in your country, having a good plan is essential for success. To help you achieve that, we prepared a detailed timeline that you might want to consult and adjust to your own needs and situation;
  4. If the decision on joining Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 is made, please fill in the progress page; regular updates would help the international team to keep track of the preparations in your country and also give you some help when needed;
  5. For some additional up-to-date information on the contest, please refer to the FAQ.

We hope that this information would be a helpful basis for joining Wiki Loves Monuments 2012. When in doubt, please don't hesitate to ask questions using the methods listed above — we're there to help you!
