[edit] Enricopedia (talk · contributions)
Not much activity here lately, but I try to revive it. I would like to nominate Enricopedia as Flickr reviewer, per . He/she has been long enough here to be trusted with the Flickr images. I will create a list a list of Flickr reviewers, with Enricopedia as first member and change the {{flickrreview}} template such that it includes trusted users, if no objections are raised within a reasonable time. (I think 7 days is too long, so I would say something from 3-5 days). -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC) It's “he” and he is a bit proud now :) Enricopedia ⇄ 21:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- No objections, so you are now the first official non admin Flickr reviewer. I will create the subpage and correct the templates later this evening or tomorrow. Good luck with reviewing! Side note: If you see images tagged with some cc-xx-2.5 license; this is not the same as a cc-xx-2.0 license. Please change the tag accordingly then. -- Bryan (talk to me) 18:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

I would love to help with Category:Flickr images needing human review. The backlog there drives me crazy sometimes! Of course I would only review images I didn't upload. I've done a bunch of work a while back with the Yorck project and I have transferred Flickr images myself and occasionally am linked to them and would enjoy helping reviewing. My main reason for this request is actually a clarification: are admins from other projects trusted? I am an admin on EN so 1) am I a "trusted user" automatically and 2) if I am how can I show that I am the same user? (although, my EN page links to my commons page so it's pretty clear). gren 04:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MECU (talk · contributions)
I've been on commons for awhile, but mainly I'm on en.wiki. I've moved quite a bit of images from en.wiki to commons (250?) and I've put up a few images here that I've found and a few images of my own. I'm quite familiar with copyright status and licensing and sourcing and have been very active on en.wiki with image patrolling. It may appear (via my talk page on en.wiki or otherwise) that I've uploaded images that have no source or are otherwise bad (orphaned fair use), but it's mainly because I go through a category there called "Fair use reduction requests" that reduce the images that are fair used from the oversized (sometimes 2100x1400+!) to a more appropriate (~300x200) size. Once that is done, the previous versions are removed making it appear I am the only uploader of the image for which I am really not. I definately think flickr reviewing it important as I've had images that have changed licenses on me and the flickr reviewing has "saved" me before, or not having the flickr review has made me regret it. You can ask several folks that are involved with images on en.wiki if I'm a regular (like BigDT) with images. I'm also typically available in the IRC channel from 2200-0300 UTC. I've got over 15k edits. I am not an admin, but had a failed RFA on en.wiki in Jan/Feb. --MECU 01:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I've been at Commons for a while. In addition I am an administrator at the English-language Wikibooks (c.f. Special:Listusers) and am a contributor to the English-language Wikipedia. I regularly do image-related maintenance including tagging or listing unlicensed or unfree images for deletion, cycling through Special:Uncategorizedcategories, or whatever else I feel up to doing. I'd like to be able to help out with the Flickreview backlogs and separate the freely licensed images from the unfree images. I understand that users can choose a variety of licenses — even different version numbers (2.0 and 2.5 for example) of Creative Commons licenses — and that, even if the image license on Flickr indicates that it is freely licensed, the uploader may not necessarily be the rights holder. With this knowledge and the knowledge in general that I have acquired from regular Wikipedia and Commons editing, I feel that I can help out and would enjoy doing so. [edit] Yummifruitbat (talk · contributions)
I'd like permission to act as a flickr reviewer. Most of my contributions are image-related and I'm active at en-FPC amongst other places. I've come across a few images of late which have been brought across from flickr with incomplete licencing details and/or with statements like "permission obtained" when in fact the image is CC-BY. There don't seem to be that many people doing this and I'm probably as qualified as anyone else to help out. --Yummifruitbat 15:06, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks very much! --Yummifruitbat 14:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Question: what experience do you have with copyrights, maintenance or Flickr? (I ask this upon looking at your contributions.) --Iamunknown 18:40, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- I can't point to any specific on-wiki experience in copyrights, and I don't have a Flickr account, but I'm familiar with the workings of the site and its tagging system. I've done a bit of identifying probably-unfree-images on en along with assorted other maintenance tasks (e.g. feature picture promotions, moving the odd image across to Commons). I admit that my contributions to the Commons to date have been image uploads, rather than maintenance. I have a good understanding of image copyright issues - you'll have to take my word for that, I'm afraid. I'm a reasonably experienced amateur photographer so I expect to be able to identify dubious licencing by comparing EXIF data, photographic style, etc. Basically I'm offering to help out where and when I can with this; maybe I've underestimated the requirements for 'trustedness' - I'm not running for adminship! I think my contribution history at en supports the fact that I'm a sensible, good-faith editor with a solid understanding of image matters (Howcheng has seen quite a bit of me at en-FPC from time to time; perhaps he'd vouch for me?). If I haven't demonstrated enough experience to be considered trustworthy then I guess I'll concentrate on other things. --Yummifruitbat 14:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the long reply. I'm leaning towards objecting based on a lack of image- and copyright-related edits I can judge by. Please know, however, that there is always room for help! I have four links on my userpage at User:Iamunknown that might be of help. Also the links at Special:Recentchanges allow for endless maintenance! Regards, Iamunknown 23:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- As a reasonably experienced photographer, Yummifruitbat should be able to spot dubious licencing. Come on, being a trusted user is not a big deal. Kjetil r 00:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think I am making it a big deal. I think that trusted users should have at least one or two image taggings under his or her belt, which I don't see here. (Well I can't see deleted edits, but I don't see talk page notifications, which I would assume would go along with said deleted edits.) --Iamunknown 00:34, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Deleted edits can be seen here. Only one though /Lokal_Profil 00:38, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've done a section of odder's Es. The deleted edit was a picture edit I uploaded at EN-FPC which was promoted and overwrote the original; the duplicate (which I created) was deleted. --Yummifruitbat 03:54, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

(outdent) Ping - I've done some tagging as requested. Please review my contributions and indicate whether I appear more trustworthy as a result. --Yummifruitbat 03:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Excuse me, I take issue with being characterised as not trusting you. It is not true; if I trusted or distrusted you, I would be making a judgement, but I have no history of edits by which to make such a judgement. Your only contributions prior to 01:43, 11 April 2007 were to image description pages of images you uploaded, to your user page, to five user's talk pages, to a couple of project-space pages and to this page. I thank you for wanting to help out. I am, however, left wondering how well you are familiarised with the project and with the intricacies of copyrights and licensing. I maintain my objection and would eagerly point you to the Clean the Commons! project (I know you have already been there, having reviewed your contributions) from which there are many images licensing issues to resolve whenever you feel the need or have the time to help out. --Iamunknown 06:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- I'm sorry if that came across the wrong way. I'm not characterising you as thinking me untrustworthy, merely indicating that I have now undertaken to illustrate through my contributions that I am familiar with Commons copyright policies, as you asked. You said "I think trusted users should have at least one or two image taggings under his or her belt, which I don't see here." Well, I now have 60+ image taggings under my belt and you still object. With all due respect, I am not interested in spending hours resolving missing licence issues and placing tags where the user has forgotten to do so otherwise I would just have gone straight there and done it without troubling to ask anybody. I have offered to review the licence tags on Flickr images and identify mis-tagged, erroneously uploaded or dubious-provenance images and to indicate where images obtained from Flickr appear to be genuinely acceptable to the Commons. I believe I would do a good job of this because I have extensive experience (which you have ignored) of image-related work on the English Wikipedia; because I am familiar with copyright policy (as I have now demonstrated); because I am a photographer myself and can spot inconsistencies in style, quality, EXIF data, etc. which might indicate false licencing; and because I can read and am capable of crosschecking the Commons tag against the Flickr one. I was under the impression that assumption of good faith was a policy here as much as on any other Wikimedia project, so I'd appreciate it if I was not asked to jump over ever-rising hurdles just to help out where I have offered. I'd be happy for someone to review my Flickr review work for a short while if others genuinely shared your concern that I might not be capable of applying policy correctly. --Yummifruitbat 12:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I'd like permission to act as a Flickr reviewer because I would like to participate in Flickr images reviews (between other things). I don't have much edits here (I am beginning now to contribute massively) but most of my contributions as admin on Italian Wikipedia are image-copyright related (I'm very active in image patrolling). I know CC licenses (and copyright tagging in general) very well and I have an account on Flickr. Thank you--Trixt 00:50, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Comment -- When I began, yes, I had HEAPS of copyvio's - i have learnt from this. The only recent copyvios were virginia tech and that was simply because I could not use the wikinews upload feature for some reason. --talk to symode09's 17:16, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Comment - Why is your signature an external link instead of an internal one? It makes it very confusing, which is not a great thing when seeking a position that involves communication. Also, I assume that you can now or will be able to in the future access Commons through Wikimedia's secure server. For example, https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page takes you to English Wikipedia on the secure server. Having a hardlinked signature would break that functionality for anyone that accesses Commons that way. --BigDT 01:32, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Self nomination. - When considering your request, we are of course not just interested in whether we judge you can be "trusted", we are also looking at whether you have a good grasp of image licensing. A week ago you uploaded Image:01thecircus.jpg which had been uploaded to enwiki. The image description on enwiki says that the image was found "on the internet and edited it in photoshop" and fails to provide a source. In this circumstance it is likely the image is a copyright violation as the majority of images online are, of course, not released under the GFDL and because there is no source we are unable to verify this. Oppose your request to review Flickr images. Reviewing Flickr image is not as simple as checking the licence is the same as the image uploaded on Commons, it requires judgement as to whether the Flickr user is actually in a position to release the image under CC. Your upload of Image:01thecircus.jpg with the description as I've noted concerns me with regard to this. Adambro 21:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Oppose Although we generally avoid on one project considering one's actions on another project, most especially relative to images, inasmuch as policies differ not insignificantly across projects, but I think some of the discussion on Wikihermit's recent request for adminship on en.wiki might be valuable; a few concerns about the understanding of image issues similar to those one might encounter reviewing Flickr content arose. Whilst Wikihermit seemed well to appreciate the concerns and quickly to rectify in errors, and although he demonstrates a similar capacity for rapid growth here, I can't imagine that one could draw any firm positive conclusion as to WH's capacity and fitness for (the admittedly generally facile) Flickr review from his contribution history at present. Hi, all. I'm self-nominating because I see a need for more reviewers to spread the workload. I understand licensing and copyright issues and how to read the licensing from a Flickr photo page. I am concerned when "The copyright status of the image was undeterminable by the bot, and requires human attention", especially in such cases as the image I reuploaded in maximum resolution (I thought correctly) to Image:570374817 f926fc2ec2.jpg. I have made over 1,900 edits on Wikimedia Commons as User:Jeff G. since I registered here on 25 February 2007, I have made over 2,200 edits on English Wikipedia since I registered there as w:User:JeffGent on 21 December 2006 and changed my name to w:User:Jeff G. on 31 May 2007, I have participated on Wikimedia's Bugzilla since I registered there on 20 May 2007 (they don't seem to count edits), I have a Flickr Pro Account, and I have tried to make each project better with each edit, or at least to do no harm. — Jeff G. Hello everyone,
I just saw an image that needs flickr-review, so I'm requesting permission to join in on that effort. I'm an active Wikimedian since April 2006, I've uploaded quite some images on Commons and have participated in discussions here from time to time. [edit] Greeves
I am an admin on the English Wikipedia (my RfA) and I am looking for a way to help out at the Commons, and since this is backlogged, I think this might be a good way to start. Greeves (talk • contribs • Wikipedia) 16:56, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Our policy regarding the flickrreview system is that administrators from other wikis may speedily begin to review Flickr images. Please make sure you have read all relevant instructions on Commons:Licensing, Commons:Flickr images and {{flickrreview}}.
And a side note: I saw on your meta page that you called this the English Wikimedia Commons. Note that there exists no such thing as an English Wikimedia Commons, and that this is a multilingual project ;) -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- That was a typo. I know it is multilingual like Meta-Wiki, but I must have been half asleep when I wrote it. ;) Greeves (talk • contribs • Wikipedia) 16:29, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Miranda
Hi, I would like to join the effort, too. I look for free images all of the time on Flickr, and I have asked people around on Flickr for images to upload to the project. One was for Aretha Franklin and the other was for Seth MacFarlane. Cheers. Miranda 01:39, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
