Cucurbita pepo Scallop Group
A well-defined group of almost entirely bush cultivars, especially important in the USA and France. The Scallop Group is an ancient group, originating in the south-eastern USA. It is used as a summer vegetable in the ovary stage, usually pickled. When ripe, the fruits are very hard-shelled and useful only ornamentally.
