Eucalyptus regnans

The Styx River in Tasmania runs through a forest of Eucalyptus regnans, Myrtle and tree ferns.

At 92 metres "The Big Tree" at the centre was until recently thought to be the tallest remaining Mountain Ash.

This tree, over 80 metres tall, and known to the Wilderness Society as "El Grande", was believed to be the most massive of all known eucalyptus regnans. In 2002 it was accidentally destroyed by loggers burning off the debris from clearfelling.
