Summary[edit]

Description
English: "English money" available here! When people from this part of the UK go to the "mainland", they have to ensure that they have Bank of England notes with them. Before this ATM was installed we had to go to one of the banks to exchange our sterling notes which would have been printed by Ulster Bank, First Trust, Northern Bank and Bank of Ireland to name a few, for Bank of England notes. Even though they include the wording "promise to pay the bearer on demand", the majority of people refuse to accept them, thinking that they are foreign money. The Irish Republic adjoining Northern Ireland is part of the EU and its currency is the euro, prior to that they had punts. I can remember the time when Southern Ireland did have pound notes and they were equal in value to sterling and they were freely exchanged in Northern Ireland, hence the misconception. However, we went to Northern England during the following week and several people were able to use their local currency without question - see 1528619
