| Description |
English: "Tornado" Draws the Crowds, Alresford, Hampshire No.60163 Tornado. Completed in 2008, Tornado was the first mainline steam locomotive to be built, in Britain, for nearly 60 years. It is the 50th Peppercorn A1 Pacific loco; the first 49 having been scrapped, after the end of mainline steam.
Working towards 90 mph mainline running; its first visit to the Mid Hants Railway, for the Spring Gala 2010, saw more leisurely running, over this heavily graded line. Seen here, at Alresford Station, "Tornado" is waiting to depart for Alton, whilst a local train has just arrived on the other platform. 9F class no.92212 is simmering in the siding, to the right of picture. |
