Display Artist: Utagawa Hiroshige Display Title: "preparatory sketchs for ""the Chofu Jewel river in Musashi; The Ide Jewel River " Series Title: The Six Jewel Rivers in the Provinces (Shokoku Mu Tamagawa) Creation Date: 1838-1843 Medium: Ink Height: 9 1/4 in. Width: 13 3/4 in. Display Dimensions: 9 1/4 in. x 13 3/4 in. (23.5 cm x 34.93 cm) Credit Line: Bequest of Mrs. Cora Timken Burnett Label Copy: "These two pages of three vertical compositions are rare examples of Hiroshiges original brush drawings. Such sketches represent the first stage in the production of a woodblock print series. The artist would submit such sketches of the designs to the publisher for approval. Corrections would be made in red, and the final designs were then given to the woodblock carver. " Label Copy (Spanish): Estas dos pginas de tres composiciones verticales son ejemplos raros de los dibujos a pincel originales de Hiroshige. Estos bocetos representan la primera etapa en la produccin de una serie de grabados en madera. El artista presentaba los bocetos al impresor para que fueran aprobados. Las correcciones se marcaban en rojo y luego le daban al tallador los diseos finales para que los labrara en madera.
