Description
Svenska: KRUKA.
English: Grey stoneware jar with high-fired glaze. Sui dynasty (581-618).The jar is a utilitarian object with lugs on its shoulder to secure a cloth or rattan lid, and a decorative piecrust rib round the body. The liquid glaze was poured on from above, has gathered in a pool above the rib and dribbled down the lower body. Where the glaze is thickest it shows flashes of opalescent blue, a phenomenon caused by a process called “liquid-liquid phase separation” that occurs as the glaze cools down in the kiln. The jar is comparable in style and function to jars excavated near Xian in Shaanxi, and in the vicinity of Anyang in Henan, both in northern China.
