Русский: «В Качановке, имении Тарновского». В Штернберг.

На обороте картины есть надпись «Картина художника Штернберга. Писана в 1838 году в имении Г.С. Тарновского Качановке Черниговской губ. Комната эта была рабочим кабинетом М.И. Глинки – за партитурой «Руслан и Людмила» и историк Малороссии Н.А. Маркевич, занятый сохранением текста баллады Финна. За мольбертом сам художник, а сзади его владелец Качановки. Здесь в 1835 году была первая проба оркестровых и хоровых партий Руслана. Сходство лиц и в особенности фигур замечательное. Очевидец, кому тогда было семь лет, сын историка А. Маркевич.

Возможно, что именно эта картина указана с ошибкой в названии в энциклопедическом словаре Брокгауза и Ефрона как «М. И. Глинка в имении Г. С. Перовского за сочинением оперы «Руслан и Людмила»
