Description
Don Juan steht dunkel vor gleißendem Licht das das Chaos im Raum betont. Simson (B 438) zerbricht eine der Säulen. Hinter ihm erscheinen undeutliche Formen in dem fahlen Kolorit der Malpappe. Das karge Motiv unterstreicht die Größe und Einsamkeit des Protagonisten. Slevogt hatte bei dem Sammler und Kulturhistoriker Eduard Fuchs Werke von Eugène Delacroix und Honoré Daumier gesehen, die ihn tief beindruckten. (SMB, Angelika Wesenberg)
