Summary[edit]
Description20100302 san millan 0002.jpg |
English: Valvanera Virgin is a Marian advocation who venerated in the Sierra de la Demanda, La Rioja (Spain), which is patron and is one of the seven patrons of the autonomous communities of Spain. (It's a considered carving a primitive Romanesque, late 11th century or beginning of 12th century).
The appearance of the image is told in the Latin Historia, written in 1419 by Castroviejo Rodrigo (Abbot Valvanera), as a translation of a Latin text of 13th century written probably by Gonzalo de Berceo. He has that thief Nuño Oñez, hearing the prayer which was to be his victim, repented of their crimes, through the Virgin Mary to help change your life. One day during his prayers appeared an Angel telling it to Valvanera in search of an oak that sobresaliese of others, whose standing sprang a source and containing several swarms, where would find an image of the Virgin Mary. He went to this place with cleric Domingo finding the image. There would begin to build a place of worship to the Virgin, in the last third of the 9th century. It is believed that this would give origin to the monastery of Valvanera, where currently venerated this Virgin.
