Summary[edit]

Description

Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. In the center is the golden Dome of the Rock, Islam's third holiest site, built upon the Temple Mount between 689 and 691 CE. Earlier the Temple Mount was the site of King Solomon's Temple and then Herod's Temple in Jesus' time (during the Second Temple Period). The rock in question is where tradition holds Abraham almost sacrificed his son Isaac and from which Mohammed ascended to heaven for a visit one night.
