Summary[edit]

Description
English: 2 Mornington Villas. This isolated rock outcrop in upper Tripsdale has a well made plaque fixed in a recess (right of picture) which says "Arthur J Browne, Private, 2 Mornington Villas". Someone's hideaway. I have since been informed that the rock outcrop is called Low Cable Stones and Mornington Villas is in Bradford a city once associated with A J Browne. Now A J Browne is quite famous for his walking books on Yorkshire and was also in the wool trade. In later years he and his wife ran a hotel in Goathland and he is buried in Sleights churchyard. My correspondant surmises the plaque came originally from A J Brownes house in Bradford and may have been placed on this crag in his memory by Tom Scott Burns also a local writer of walking books.
