Summary[edit]

Description
English: w:en:Midland Railway 990 Class, official photograph, believed to be dated 1909. It is in photographic grey livery. A higher resolution version of this image is in the hands of the National Railway Museum, and is available in Essery & Jenkinson illustrated review of Midland locomotives, vol 1.

It is believed in good faith to be public domain on the following rationale:

  1. Since it is an official photograph, the author is unknown: he is anonymous and unidentifiable.
  2. Therefore copyright expires 70 years after first publication
  3. The image was published in contemporary railway magazines, books, etc in at least this small resolution at the time of its construction.
If the last point is untrue, then a fair use/fair dealing defence could be made as they are publicity materials used for educational purposes.
