Die NÖ Landesregierung hat in der Sitzung vom 10. März 1964 der nachweislich seit 1545 das Marktrecht besitzenden Marktgemeinde Sitzendorf an der Schmida ein Marktwappen verliehen.

Object history Der Wolf symbolisiert den de:Passauer Wolf, was auf die Missionierung durch das Bistum Passau und die jahrhundertelange Zugehörigkeit zu diesem hinweist. Die zwei Rebmesser (Weinmesser) führten die Grafen Dietrichstein, einst Inhaber der Burg und Grundherren von Sitzendorf, in ihrem Wappen. Die Weinmesser im Wappen der Grafen Dietrichstein gehen auf eine Sage zurück. Während der Türkenkriege konnte der Graf sein Leben nur dadurch retten, dass er sich als einfacher Weinhauer ausgab und die damit verbundenen schweren Arbeiten verrichtete. Aus Dank und zur Erinnerung nahm er dieses Arbeitsgerät in sein Wappen auf.
