| Description |
English: A lichen - Pseudevernia furfuracea. This species resembles Evernia prunastri, 1073663, and, as explained in the item just cited, both species have been used in the perfume industry. A common name for this species is "Tree Moss", although it is not a moss.
It differs from E. prunastri in that it is grey in colour, has an underside that is dark (at least in places), and is covered in tiny rod-like projections called isidia (which can break off and be dispersed, allowing the lichen to reproduce asexually). |
