Summary[edit]

Description
English: A sad end
  • The famous wild cherry [prunus avium] that has stood for centuries in Studley Park was dealt a mortal blow on January 25th 2008, when most of the surviving parts of the tree were snapped off in a severe gale. The tree had suffered damage in a similar storm in 2004, but had survived to bear blossom and leaf.
  • Now there is little more than a stump and two limbs left. The tree can be seen in its full splendour in a book entitled 'The Heritage Trees of Britain and Northern Ireland'.
  • See the other photo of this tree taken before the recent storm by Matthew Hatton.
