Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ancient church of St. John at Ballachulish The old church was a Scottish Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church of Scotland is in Communion with the church of England. It was formed, I believe out of the happenings of the 17th century when the Stuart kings at London tried to force a new prayer book on the established Presbyterian Kirk in Scotland. Many ministers were forced out of their churches and conduct sermons on the open air, the so called blanket sermons. The National Covenant was born and countless thousands of Scots signed and the people of the established kirk fought back in defence of their way of religion. It is unknown how many died during the killing times of the Covenanting Wars however the Church of Scotland was saved as the kirk of Scotland. Some congregations however embraced the new prayer book, it let them worship in a way more akin to their old Catholic religion which had been banned. Over the centuries since, the kirks with the new prayer book flourished alongside the established church and the Anglican church in Scotland was reborn as the Episcopal Church, a church which is particularly strong in the old Catholic heartlands of the Scottish Highlands. This interpretation is wholly my view.
