English: The latest average weekly earnings figures, January 2014

The average weekly wage, including bonus payments, rose by 1.4% comparing November 2013 to January 2014 with the same period a year earlier. Average weekly wages including bonus payments before taxes and other deductions from gross pay were £479 in January 2014, up from £471 a year earlier.

Average weekly earnings excluding bonus payments rose by 1.3% comparing November 2013 to January 2014 with the same period a year earlier. In cash terms, average weekly earnings excluding bonus payments were £451 in January 2014, before taxes and other deductions from gross pay, up from £443 a year earlier.

Private sector earnings up 1.7% on the year and public sector earnings up 0.5%

Average weekly earnings including bonus payments rose by 1.4% comparing November 2013 to January 2014 with the same period a year earlier. Average weekly earnings for the private sector increased by 1.7% and average weekly earnings for the public sector increased by 0.5%.

In January 2014 average pay including bonus payments in the private sector was £475 a week, £17 a week lower than the public sector figure of £492 a week. However, excluding publicly owned financial corporations, average weekly pay in the public sector was only £6 a week higher than for the private sector, at £481 a week
