Anthony Peak Lookout stands high above the Mendocino National Forest. The highest peak in Mendocino County which watches the scenic expanse of the national forest and into both Tehama and Mendocino Counties as it is still very much an active member of the fire protection program. Anthony Peak Lookout was erected in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and restored in 1994 as a National Lookout Registry. Previous lookouts include Tracy Boyle, Dennis Moore, and Edwina Wilson just to name of a few of a long and honorable line. Marie Green Hall retired in 2010 after 35 years of service. Malcolm Lane who served as relief lookout and maintenance from 2006-2010 currently serves as the lookout with Gail Harris being the relief lookout. The lookout has gracefully been maintained in recent years by lookouts, archeologists, volunteers, and the crews of MNF engines 352, 53, and Log Springs. The Pass Fire of 2012, north of Covelo burned in excess of 41,000 acres threatening the Anthony Peak Lookout. Photos of the tower wrapped in fire resistant material will be available soon or can be found on INCIweb.org If you would like to make contributions to this site information, you may do so directly. Thank you.
