English: Micrograph showing atrophy of the prostate gland, also prostatic atrophy. H&E stain. Prostatectomy specimen.
The term partial atrophy of the prostate is often used, as the prostate gland characteristically has atrophic and non-atrophic glands side-by-side. Atrophy may be present in nodular hyperplasia of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Prostatic atrophy is very common and occasionally can mimic prostate carcinoma. Related images
