Description
Deutsch: Ehemaliges Gebäude der Handelskammer Berlin in der Dorotheenstraße 26, Ecke Universitätsstraße (rechts), erbaut 1903-1904 von den Architekten Wilhelm Cremer und Richard Wolffenstein. Hervorgehoben ist der Teil an der Dorotheenstraße, der wegen der Säle im zweiten Obergeschoss an der Dorotheenstraße leicht erhöht gegenüber dem Seitentrakt an der Universitätsstraße ist. Der aufwändige Bauschmuck, darunter zwei Sandsteinskulpturen von Ernst Westphal am Hauptportal, akzentuiert den repräsentativen Charakter des neobarocken Gebäudes. Die Berliner Handelskammer nutzte den Bau bis 1945; danach waren in ihm das Museum für Deutsche Geschichte, Teile der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR und die Fachschule für Bibliothekare untergebracht. Heute sitzen hier Institute und Einrichtungen der Humboldt-Universität. Das Gebäude ist als Baudenkmal ausgewiesen. Der Bauschmuck stammt aus dem Atelier von Ernst Westphal.
