Description
Deutsch: Hauptgebäude des Bundesministeriums für Verkehr, Bau und Stadtplanung in der Invalidenstraße 44 in Berlin-Mitte, erbaut 1875-1878 von August Thiede als Preußische Bergakademie und Geologische Landesanstalt. Sie wurde in einem städtebaulichen Zusammenhang mit dem benachbarten Naturkundemuseum und der Landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule auf dem ehemaligen Gelände der Königlichen Eisengießerei errichtet. Die vierflügelige Anlage mit zentraler Oberlichthalle und Lichthof besitzt eine klassizistische Fassade mit großen Rundbogenfenstern, Mittelportal und bastionsartigen Eckfassungen. In der DDR-Zeit war das Gebäude Sitz des Ministeriums für Geologie und des Zentralen Geologischen Instituts. Beim Umbau für das Bundesverkehrsministerium wurden 1996-1997 bauliche Veränderungen vor allem im Inneren zurückgenommen. Außerdem wurden dem Komplex zwei moderne Erweiterungsbauten nach Entwürfen des Architekten Max Dudler angefügt. Das Gebäude steht als Teil der Gesamtanlage Invalidenstraße 42-44 unter Denkmalschutz.
