| Description |
English: Birkie Cleuch The burn in this gully runs past the buildings at Birkhill by the A708 in the foreground. Birkhill Cottage on the right is where the geologist Charles Lapworth stayed at various times between 1872 and 1877. A plaque on the wall of the cottage was erected by Scottish Geologists in 1931 commemorating his stay and his discovery of the use of graptolite fossils at nearby Dob's Linn, in unravelling the stratigraphy and structure of the Southern Uplands. |
