Description

Bochum Westpark.

  • Blick auf ein Jahrhundert Stadtgeschichte. Laternen im Industriedesign, Gleise und Eisenbahn sind dekoratives Überbleibsel aus einer Zeit als der 'Bochumer Verein' noch Stahl produzierte.
  • Bergbau findet im Bochum nur noch im Museum statt, das aber weithin sichtbar. Der Förderturm ist das Wahrzeichen des 'Deutschen Bergbaumuseums'.
  • "Flammen über ganz Deutschland zu Ehren Bismarcks leuchten lassen" - dazu hatten die deutschen Studenten 1898 aufgerufen. Überall im Lande sollten Säulen und Türme mit bekrönenden Flammenschalen zu Ehren des Verstorbenen errichtet werden. Der Bismarck-Turm im Hintergrund wurde 1910 eröffnet.
  • A view onto a century of town history. Industry design lanterns, railway tracks and equipment are a decorative relict of times when the steel mill 'Bochumer Verein' was still active.
  • There is no mining in Bochum any more except in museum. The pithead-tower is the emblem of the German Mining Museum, one of the most significant ones worldwide.
  • "To let flames shine all over Germany in honour of Cancellor Bismarck" - the german students had demanded 1898. All over the country there should be built columns and towers with flames on the top to remind in the deceased statesman. The Bismarck-Tower in background was opened 1910.
