| Description |
English: Bog in the Bishop of Winchester's Purlieu, New Forest. A view north-west from the causeway across the bog - the path descends from Lovely Hill and crosses the rather wet Purlieu. Bogs in the Forest like this are being conserved using money from the European "Life III" project, some of which involves reversing the drainage projects carried out in the 1960s. The area is part of the open forest, and commoners have the right to depasture stock here. The ponies would not usually venture this deep into the bog, but the bogs do provide a food source under drought conditions. |
