Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bridgewater Canal, Runcorn The Bridgewater Canal was opened in 1761 to give an outlet for the products of Francis Egerton's (3rd Duke of Bridgewater) collieries, and was the first canal to be built that was not an improvement of an existing watercourse. Since 1885 it has been owned by the Manchester Ship Canal Co. and is now operated in conjunction with the Bridgewater canal Trust as a leisure waterway.
