Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bruntsfield Links, looking towards Bruntsfield Place The uneven ground is explained by the fact that this section of the old Burgh Muir, west of Whitehouse Loan, was an old sandstone quarry. It was even mooted as a possible site for the termination of the Union Canal, opened in 1820, although that plan, shown on maps of the time, was abandoned, presumably because of the cost of building an expensive system of locks to take the canal uphill.
