Photographer
Photographed by William B. Duff.
Description

View of an inscription printed in large block letters on the wall of a barrack in the Buchenwald concentration camp. The inscription on the building reads, "1 May, 1933 Fascist terror reigns over Germany. 1 May, 1945 Sunrise brings the dawn of freedom." The original photo caption reads, "Shows where people have been there since 1933. Buchenwald was in full swing about 1935. Thousands died daily from typhus, dysentery, and T.B. Most of them died in the crematory or the lime pit."

William B. Duff served in the 117th Infantry Medical Detachment as a surgical technician. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and the fighting in Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes.
