Summary[edit]

Description
English: Burstwick Drain Footbridge, south of Hedon, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
The level of the drain is usually at least 2m (6') below the bottom of this bridge. This is the highest I've ever seen it (previous highest was in the winter of 2003). The level was high due to the unprecedented 115mm (4.5") of rain that had fallen in this area within a few hours the day before. The waterway drains directly into the tidal River Humber some one and a half miles downstream of here, and at this particular high tide, the level at this point built up at an alarming rate. As can be seen in the photograph, a lot of waterside vegetation had been ripped from its roots.
