Nederlands: Negatief. De huizen van de Karo-Bataks zien er weer anders uit dan die van de Toba-Bataks. Het woord voor huis onder de Karo-Batak en de Minangkabau, rumah, wordt bij hen ook gebruikt voor de verwantengroep die in dat huis woont. Dat geldt ook voor de vergelijkbare term uma bij de Mentawaiers. Ook elders in de Indische Archipel kwam het voor dat huis en verwantengroep zo goed als identiek waren.
