| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. De bekendste rubberproducerende boom op Java, Sumatra en Borneo, de Hevea brasiliensis, komt uit Zuid-Amerika zoals de naam al aangeeft. De eerste plantjes arriveerden in 1876 in 's Lands Plantentuin te Buitenzorg. Overigens noemde men rubber toen over het algemeen caoutchouc en had men het over caoutchoucbomen. Net als bij de kina nam het gouvernement bij de rubber het voortouw met de oprichting van 's Lands Caoutchoucbedrijf. Het duurde even voor particuliere ondernemers het belang van het product inzagen.
