Esta foto participó En Otro Lugar de Flickr Lo mejor conservado es la torre del homenaje. Los escudos de armas señalan, uno de ellos la casa de los Osorio y el otro el de los Valcarce. La Torre cuadrada es de tres pisos separados por impostas, con almenas, modillones, ladronera y restos de una extensa nave de tres cuerpos. Su construcción es seguramente de principios del siglo XV y perteneció a los Alvarez Osorio hasta el 1482 pasando después a manos de los Alvarez de Toledo, Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo era Marqués de Villafranca y virrey de Nápoles, casado con Doña Elvira de Mendoza envió a su hija Doña María de Toledo con su tía y hermana de él a Villafranca donde la ilustre señora se convirtió en religiosa y fundó el convento de la Anunciada, siendo la primera Abadesa.El Castillo pertenece en la actualidad a Alonso Halfter Caro descendiente de los Marqueses de Villafranca, que lo restauró en 1991 despojándole de la hiedra que, aunque haciéndole más hermoso si cabe, acabaría con sus muros. (Al ser propiedad privada no puede visitarse pero puede contemplarse su hermosa figura dominando la villa) |
