A lovely residential section of Greenwich Village. This older section is where the grid patterns of Manhattan's east-west streets (usually numbered) and north-south avenues break down completely. It's certainly a nice change from the intensity and the density that describes much of Manhattan. A lovely neighborhood Jewish synagogue. New York City is one of the most Jewish places in the world, to a point where living in New York City makes one "Jewish by cultural osmosis" due to all the Jewish cultural concepts and lingos commonly used. After all, New York City has some of the best bagels anywhere, and bagels are a Jewish invention. (Similar cultural osmosis happens elsewhere in the US too - in particular, San Francisco and its gay culture, as well as Los Angeles and its Latino Catholic culture.) |
