Summary[edit]

Description
English: Congresul Preoților ("Priests' Congress"), anticlerical cartoon-lithograph in Calendarul Cocoşului Roşu almanac, Brașov, Transylvania (Austria-Hungary). Depicting Romanian Orthodox priests binge drinking, soliciting prostitutes and fighting with civilians at the Klaus Coffee House. The almanac was put out by the German-speaking (Saxon) editors Ioan and Henric Gött, but had a Romanian readership.
The author is a] H. F. who does not appear to be a Romanian. And, since some of [his] drawings are directly aimed at the Saxons, I don't believe he is a Saxon either. [...] The Priests' Congress borrows directly from the life of the Romanians (Klaus Coffee House). Funny, but a tad crude. Surprising with its anticlerical spirit, among the Transylvanians, who have always held priests in the highest esteem").
