Summary[edit]
DescriptionCoumeenoole Bay (Com Dhineol) - northern beach - geograph.org.uk - 1711411.jpg |
English: Coumeenoole Bay (Com Dhineol) - northern beach. This beach, just south of Dunmore Head (An Dún Mór), is unusual in that it has road access, visible at 918098, which allows small boats to be launched. The beach also directly faces the westerly gales across Blasket Sound and so is popular with surfers despite strong off-shore currents running through the Sound. Beyond the houses the ground rises to Mount Eagle (1700 feet), and off to the right is Slea Head. Close-up of the beach at 1713120
It was on this (northern) beach of the Bay that most of the shipwreck scenes in the David Lean film "Ryan's Daughter" (1970) were shot https://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1207239449/ |
